1. Post landing, u do not pay the international student's fees. It's the domestic charges, which is much lower.
2. As a landed PR, u r eligible for all loans, provided u fulfil certain criterion (eg. Credit History etc.).

Dear Qorax.

I am a Petroleum Engr. working in an Oil company. My wife is B.Sc (Chemistry) & have 14 years of regular education.
WeIintend to land in Calgary or Edminton in February. We have plans to do Master's in Petroleum Engg & Master's in Education respectively over there.

It is clear from your post that, we'll be charged fees equivalent to Canadian Nationals. We have some questions which need your expert opinion:

1. After how long after landing, we're eligible a. to take admission & b. for any funding / loan / scholarship, etc?
2. Either we should have to wait for one year to become eligible for loan or funding?

Regards,

Dear Ramesch,

1. After how long after landing, we're eligible a. to take admission & b. for any funding / loan / scholarship, etc?
R-1(a): No time limit, u r eligible for admissions straightaway.
R-1(b): Not before u have developed a Credit History (minimum 3 months)*.

2. Either we should have to wait for one year to become eligible for loan or funding?
R-2. Not one yr, but after 3 months* of regular salary deposits into ur bank a/c.

*This is for the Banks & 1st line lending institutions, needing a Credit History as per Canadian system. Loans we can also get from 3rd parties at much higher interest rates.

Hope that helps.

Normally banks doesn't offer loan's for PhD programs, getting into PhD's in good universities is not easy as well as they normally choose 4-5 students or max case is 10 depends on budget, as per my university they normally offer admission to students whom they can fund fully or min 75% of the fee, International student normally get fee reimbursement of different b/w national and international fee in Ontario in BC fee is same for international and national. So, choose wisely and with your results. The avg required score is 78-80% but normally offers are made 85%+, plus some fields require proposal of research, am in finance so don't need to prepare proposal in 1st year we need to go for 6 exams in first year+3 comprehensive exams.
