same problem with me .....4 months passed ..no reply from RPO regarding addition of surname ...finnaly planed to file case under RTI tommorow .... normally it takes around 1-2 months to receive passport back .

veeray, je na add karawan te kii problem ayegi. hun case processing vich hon karke add karan lai v nahin de sakde, kite tuhade vang fass hi na jaye, kii kriye.

regarding your case my suggestion to you, you first meet with PRO at RPO personally.
he will definitely apprise you about the case. if you wont get poitive response then go for RTI.
bcoz under RTI also it will take more than one month. they are bound to reply within 1 month.
matlab ke 1 mahina te langh hi jayega.
better to meet first.

earlier the RPO was relative of my frnd ....but jeda hun hai oh nai janda ....Passport office ale bina kise letter to nai milan dende ...ive tried to them twice ....bas kalnu RTI ch application paa deni hai

eg if you name is like : SURINDER SINGH then it is ok.

But if you name is : SURINDER , then surname is must. Hence name should be in two words.

Plz clarify where it is made mandatory in CIC website to have surname. Seniors may please reply.

Statement from the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration on Surnames on Permanent Resident Applications
Ottawa, Ontario, July 26, 2007

The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration (CIC), issued the following statement today regarding CIC’s longstanding policy which asks permanent resident applicants with the surname “Singh” and “Kaur” to provide an additional surname on their application.

“It has been brought to my attention that a letter was sent to an applicant telling him that unless he provided an additional surname in addition to other documentation, his application for permanent residence may not be processed. This letter does not reflect the policy of Canada’s New Government, and I can assure you I have directed the department to ensure that this type of erroneous letter is not sent out again.

“The practice of asking applicants with the surname “Singh” and “Kaur” to provide an additional surname was designed to help identify and differentiate applicants who shared the same first and last names. Providing an additional surname is entirely voluntary. The policy of Canada’s New Government is that applicants with the surnames “Singh” or “Kaur” may, but are not required to, provide an additional surname. No application for permanent residence will be rejected if the applicant chooses not to provide an additional surname.”

Sirname is not a mandatory requirement for PR-VISA(under FSW/PNP etc).As i had foreign travel history of >10 yrs,one's 'sirname' is important with name,just for documents sake.
Dont worry,you will not be refused PR-VISA just for non-addition of your sirname.

it will be better if you add it before getting visa ,canadian driving license etc, as you can save your time,money and mental-tension.

Main link te gyaa c par link wich rule wali koi gall nahi hai.

Link te bass 'Singh' te 'Kaur' ton baad Surname add karan da jikar hai. Hor cases wich eh apply nai hunda

e.g. RAKESH KUMAR, CHANDER PRAKASH, RAJ KUMAR etc.

Mere consultant ne v dasiya k Surname is not mandatory, but may be Surname may be mandatory for cases where 'Singh' or 'Kaur' are second names.
