I have a problem ! I have lived in Canada for over 40 years but I am a US citizen. I do have a PR card but I just noticed that it expired last month ! I have been busy finally filling out and sending in my application for Canadian Citizenship, so that is in the works now. I suddenly have an opportunity to visit my son who lives in London. UK the first week of August. There is no way I can get my PR card renewed in time! Is there any way they will let me back in to Canada if I go to visit my son ? or am I just asking for a lot of trouble ?! Is there anything I can do ? or should I forget about going ? Any knowledge would be really helpful..Thank you so much in advance.

Because you are a US citizen, they should let you board the plane. The worst they could do is ask you why you don't have a return ticket if you are going to Canada to visit. You can ask the airline if this is a problem. Another way to get in would be to fly to the US and then cross the border to Canada in a car. A third would be to contact the Canadian embassy in London and getting a travel document.

Whether you end up flying to Canada or crossing the border from the US, when you get to immigration, just show your expired PR card and say you forgot to renew it.

It looks like you could apply for urgent processing of your pr card. You are travelling more than 3 weeks away.
See link below.

Thanks , I did think of the urgent processing idea. My problem is that the reason I have an opportunity to go is that my husband is going on a business trip and I will be able to go with him. His work is not always the fastest with confirming things...so by the time the trip is confirmed and tickets bought I don't think I will still have the three weeks to work with. I might just end up going and hope they allow me back in to Canada. I was just wondering if anyone had been through something similar...looking for reassurance they will be lenient with the expired card I guess :)
