Hi. Are there any workers going to Canada this Month? I am booked to fly to Vancouver this 28th of January. I am new in Canada and I have a working permit as Live in Caregiver. How is the Canadian Immigration to foreign workers like me? Are they strict on the local goods you will bring? Goods like you only have it in your country. Like me I'm planning to bring shrimp paste (bagoong in Filipino). Give me some advice please. Thanks a lot. :)

hi
i know that customs and immigration department are very fussy about certain food stuff to carry in and out of the airport.
any food material that is counted as "gel" based will not be allowed.
if they allow you to carry that from your country, then i don't think it could be a problem at vancouver airport.
also ask your airline about the same.
wishing you a smooth and hassle-free journey to maple land and best wishes for your new job.
hitesh.

Thanks Jitesh and manogyan for the info!
Happy landing Jitesh and Best of luck for your future in Canada.

i am landing in calgary, where you get health card on same day.
but still my father was adamant that i take temporary insurance, so i have taken 1 week insurance for a fee of INR 715/-
of course if you land in toronto, u need to buy 4 months of insurance with u.

Finally,

My younger brother has landed in Vancouver on 16/12/2014. Though a long flight India (Kolkata).
Lot of first time immigrant during his landing and not many questions asked.
Overall very happy that finally he has made it to Canada, Now its my turn, hope LVO does my case fast.
His PR card will be sent to Alberta( my another sisters house, this was the address medntioned in COPR), Though the officer gave a choice to change the address but nevertheless he didnt.

Hopefully my turn soon and best of luck Hitesh.

Hitesh, first let me congratulate you for success achieved so far. Are you landing in calgary to relocate to edmonton, or you're settling in calgary?

hi hitesh,
sorry for the error but its my phone's auto prompt fault!! ;)(thats why messaging you from laptop :))
hope to catch up with you some day in canada
can you pm me how you went about with your B4 and b4a forms.

have a smooth landing

gopi

Hello Everyone,
Congratulations on reaching this much awaited milestone!, I only have one question though that is "why are you all planning for Edmonton?".. the reason I ask is that I am in Edmonton right now and I see much more life and opportunity in Calgary; that's where all the money is! I am also working out to move there as soon I see some opportunity and change in weather, Calgary is much bigger city with lots of big jobs in Canada; that's where 80% of oil money is sitting.
Wish you all the very best.
