Guys I called CBSA 3 times.

Different people picked up. I asked about this essential reason & whether time zone & internet issues would be considered.

One person just said it's essential if I have a physical study permit already. I don't have that. I said I only have Letter of Introduction.

The other two asked whether I have face-to-face classes or online classes.

They said it's not essential if it's online :(

This is so depressing.

Even if I get that letter from University, I doubt whether Air India will allow me to board. I heard that they're denying boarding even to those with support letter from the institute.

Instead, Air India is now asking for a letter from Canadian High Commission in Delhi to allow boarding. I've been seeing this requirement mentioned on twitter.
I recently came across a case where AI denied boarding by saying you are not allowed to travel more than 2-3 weeks prior to start of your studies.

So, AI is behaving as if they are working for immigration dept.

P.s. A guy with a supporting letter from University.

Universities can't provide if the classes are online because they have to mention if student has online or on campus classes like labs so even if they provide letter mentioning online course its value will be nothing.
but some are getting these letters but only those who were having online classes in May intake.
Rightly said.

I have heard that some universities & colleges are issuing letters even though the classes are online.

Dear All,

This is the latest update from CIC. So, what do you interpret from the update? Is there any ray of hope even for Sept. 2020?

What to expect for the rest of 2020
Canada will continue to monitor the corona virus situation, both domestically and abroad, to inform its travel rules for the rest of the year.

Despite today’s extension of travel restrictions, Canada is in the midst of reviewing whether to introduce additional exemptions.

As first reported by CIC News earlier this week, the Government of Canada is currently engaging with provinces, territories, universities, colleges, and other educational institutions about how to potentially welcome more international students in a safe manner.

@Peter88 , yaar please post here if you get email reply from CBSA please?
Hallo,
I received email reply from CBSA. They mentioned and shared links of all the general rules for travels restrictions and exemptions that we all might have definitely gone through and at the end they have said that it will depend on case to case basis at POE based on our documents.

That's sad!

Even Canadian High Commission in Delhi is also replying in a similar fashion. They are not giving objective responses.

Did you request an answer to your specific query?

I totally agree.

Same with my University. They just don't understand. They are just saying you can complete the course requirements remotely & your presence is not required lol :(

I can't even try to board without thus letter, right?
In today’s webinar, Canada High commission in India again clarified that even if your visa was approved before 18th March, but your studies is online you won’t be allowed entry as it’s not essential for you to be in Canada to study..

Hey,
So after requesting, my institute has given me a letter mentioning that the classes are online but it is still recommended that the student travels due to time difference.
What is the impact of this ?
Also, any word from any airlines other than Air India ? A known agent of mine has confirmed me that 2 Indian students reached Canada successfully today through Lufthansa's repatriation flights. Does anyone know about this ? as their ticket prices are higher than Air India, should they be given any thought ?

But everyday we keep hearing about so many students (from various countries) with fully online classes for the fall being allowed in at the border.

Buddy, what I understand is that it is about taking chances only. I have not heard that any international student with GIC is deported back from Canada. So, if we can crack AI somehow then probability of entering Canada is very high.
But how do we crack Air India?

What do they require to surely allow students to enter the flight?

How can we make sure they will not deny boarding?

By making sure your support letter has the words "physical presence in Canada". Which is almost impossible to get from the institutions.
I agree. It's impossible to get those words.

But CBSA is anyway allowing everyone into Canada. They don't even ask whether classes are online or face-to-face.

They are letting students (1st time entrants) with fully online classes for the fall inside Canada eveyyday.

Then why is IRCC putting up this drama of essential/non-essential on their website?

But the useless Indian government is not allowing students to board any other airline apart from Air India.

They are not allowing us to book through Lufthansa or emirates or any other airline. Why?

Maybe because different people get money out of running VBM & forcing students to book only through VBM. Result is only we suffer.
