Hi,

I have a valid work permit but an expired temporary resident visa. I have a new job offer with a valid LMO from a new employer. I was wondering would it be prudent to FLAGPOLE for a new work permit without a TRV as my new employer wants me to start work ASAP and not happy waiting for 2 months (I have already applied for new work permit online).

Secondly which would be suitable border to visit. I am based in Edmonton.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Any suggestions??? :-\

Hello - our nanny recently flagpoled to get a work permit. We are all in Edmonton. She drove to Coutts/Sweetgrass (Alberta/Montana border) and everything went very smoothly for her.

As to whether or not to try this without a valid visa, I have no idea. But it sounds like a bad idea to me. What if they won't let you back into Canada!? I wouldn't want to risk it!

Thanks lucybear05 for the advice.

hello 'astasi'. Please let me know if you did a Flagpole with the Expired TRV. I too am in the same situation (Expired TRV and valid WP) and want to Flagpole to get my Work Permit. Please let me know if you were able to get your WP at POE?

Hi,

I decided not to go to the US border for flagpole, guess I thought it was better to wait for Vegreville to process my WP application. I had applied on September 17 and received my WP on November 30. It took abt 71 calender days to process.

Did you apply online? And those the 71 days include the days before you got your new wp in your mail.

Congratulations 'astasi'. I too have applied online. It currently shows 71 days. Hope it will be within 71 days. Another Question. Does 71 days include the time they had emailed your WP? How long will is mailing time for WP?

Hi,

@DCP- 71 days is the time CIC took to process the WP application. You can add 3-7 business days for postal delays depending on which province you are located.

@Klemzo- I did apply online for my WP and 71 days is the processing time from the day I applied online (September 17) and the day it was issued (November 28).

I applied successfully with a valid WP but expired TRV, it is written in CIC's website that I'm exempted from a visa following a US visit if I have a valid work permit

Astasi, many thanks for sharing this. Did you receive an email notification when the OWP was granted? Thanks!
