Flag Polling : Can a single entry visit visa do it?

Hi,

Im a masters students in Canada. My husband arrived with me and has 2 years temporary residence visa (SINGLE ENTRY). He wants to apply for the open work permit (which is given for spouses of students) and we heard one of our friends husband got it thru Flag poling. But he had multiple entry temporary residence visa.

Can my husband who has SINGLE ENTRY Temporary residence visa do flag polling?

No, he is not eligible to apply for a work permit at the border. He should apply online.

You can request authorization to work in Canada as you enter Canada but only if you meet the following requirements:
•you are temporary resident visa exempt;
•you already hold a valid medical certificate, if it is required for your job; and
•your job does not need a labour market opinion (LMO) from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) (some exceptions apply); or
•you hold an LMO from HRSDC.

And he is not visa exempt from what you say. However, I have heard a couple of cases like your friend who were allowed to get a work permit at the border with a multiple entry visa. Strictly speaking, the immigration officer could have refused them because they are not visa exempt. With a single entry visa, once he leaves Canada at the border, he needs a visa to return.

No, he can travel to the US, and return within the validity of his original admission of the single entry visa. My relatives did this many times.
