Hello all,

I was wondering what my options may be. I arrived in Canada on June 15th 2015 on an IEC (Working Holiday visa). It expired on June 2017. I had submitted a form through CIC to stay in Canada as a visitor once my working holiday visa expired. I was approved and since June 15th of this year I have been in Canada as a visitor/tourist. This expires at the end of August. When filling in the form I actually said the end of August would be good but circumstances have changed since then.

I also applied for permanent Residence about 3 and a half months ago and I am currently waiting for this. I've decided I'd actually like to remain in Canada for a little longer. I don't know when my PR will come through (if I even get it) but ideally I'd like to remain in Canada as a visitor for an additional 6 months once it is the end of August.

I am not sure how I do this. Am I able to go to the Niagara Falls/Buffalo boarder and enter the US then come back? Can this be done any time between now and the end of August or should I do it near the end of my current visitor visa?

What would happen if I took a flight down to NYC for a few days and came back to Toronto? Would they give me a new stamp allowing me to stay in Canada for an additional 6 months or would they just look on record and see that I am allowed to stay in Canada until the end of August and not stamp at all. I am a British citizen btw.

Thanks in Advanced!

I would think that you should just apply for an extension to your VR, and do so within 30 days before it expires. You will then have implied status. Send a copy of the receipt for PR with your VR extension request. There is no guarantee you will be allowed back into Canada, once you have left, as you will have to prove to the CBSA that you will be returning to your home country and have proof of it....like return tickets and so on. Good luck!
