So my BF and I drove to the border today and he got a one year closed WP
It took us 4 hours to go there and back and was very worth the trip.
Initially the agent did say that she could not give him one because he did not have the letter from the province. She said that the letter needed to state that he was sponsored by his employer for his PNP nomination. We explained that he was not being sponsored by his employer. She read the PNP certificate back to us where is does state that his nomination is because he has a full time job offer from his employer. We explained that although his nomination was because he had the job that his employer had not done anything on his behalf to get the PNP. We explained he came on an IEC work permit and got the job then applied for PNP. She asked us to sit for a while so she could look into it more. And after about 30 minutes she called him up and gave him his one year employer specific WP.
So basically if you are a Manitoba nominee be prepared to have to provide a support letter from the province but at the same time when you are talking to an actual person instead of applying on line you can clarify any misunderstanding they may have about why you have been nominated and therefor what you may need for a WP. I think talking with a person you are more likely to get someone who wants to help and say "yes" to giving a WP if they can find a logical reason to say yes that won't end up jeopardizing job.
I am so glad we took the advice of other forum members and made the drive, thank you so much for the encouragement. We feel like a weight has been taken off our shoulders and now we can just go back to waiting for his PR application to get moving.
