Story from his side:

My wife and I are relatives. My mother and her are cousins. But due to the age difference, she calls her aunt. Before my wife went to Canada we played together as kids. When she went to Canada, we stopped talking to each other, but our families continued to remain in touch through phone. In march 2012, I messaged her on facebook and we started talking again. Our friendship quickly blossomed and we knew we were both romantically interested in each other. We went from facebook to chattig to phone calls and eventually to skype. When we were ready, we told our parents that we were serious about each other. We wanted to see each other, so I started applying for a visit visa. I applied twice but could not get a visa. My wife couldn't come to Barcelona due to her studies and work commitments. So we continued our relationship on skype and phone calls. Our parents spoke to one another and finally on Jan 06, 2013 our engagement was publicly announced to family and friends. Since we were both in seperate countries, we did not have an engagement party. However, our relatives were given money to buy sweets to distribute for this joyous occassion. In September 2013, our parents decided our wedding date. So we started preparing for the big event to be held on January 23 and January 24, 2014. We told all the relatives as well, so they could attend the wedding and help us prepare.

Please review and let us know what you think. Feel free to comment/leave suggestions.

Many many thanks

I can't help but ask . . . "And then?"

Your post reads like an unfinished story. I'm not even sure the wedding took place, (reading that one).

Truesmile, lol, yes let me finish:

Part of My wife's family and my mom left in December to prepare for the wedding. The remainder of our families and us joined them closer to the time of wedding, due to university and work. Our wedding was four days long and continued from Jan 21 to Jan 24. The actual day when we took our vows was on Jan 23, 2014. Please see attached pictures of the ceremony. (We will attach pictures).

Does that sound okay??

After reading the narrative, I'm not sure of the following:

- you guys had lost contact, what made him initiate contact with you?
- what do you guys have in common? e.g. interests, goals, education, love of family, etc
- what was it about him(you) that made you fall in love? Beauty/handsome, intelligent, kind, caring?
- when you say, "quickly blossomed", how quick do you mean? Very important to explain if this is common in your culture, what steps(if any) were taken by you guys and your families to ensure you are compartible, etc.
- your engagement was publicly announced. Any cultural significance of this? If so, describe it.
- money given to buy sweets, etc to celebrate engagement - describe cultural significance(if any)
- if both of you were not present for the engagement, explain why. If it is allowed in your culture, mention it.
- if there are traditions that must be performed, say whether they were done. If some were not, explain why.
- did you have a honeymoon? If not, why?

Basically, this part of the application is where you want to do your best to present your relationship and hopefully address anything that an officer may have questions over. I would add more substance to your answers - you can use the questions above(if applicable) as a guide.

Ok, so I have a question. :D I like learning about other cultures. From your narrative, you and your husband are related(first cousins once removed). I'm wondering - when growing up is it weird to know(imagine) that you could marry your cousin some day? Just trying to understand, hope it doesn't offend you.

CANNOT WAIT!
I think Senorita pretty much summed it up for you. Just keep in mind you have to explain everything to an officer that may/may not have the same culture/religion as you. So when you say engagement, explain how...like did you guys do a nikah over the phone? how many people gathered to witness this? Who conducted the nikah etc.

Thank you so much everyone especially SENORITABELLA.

Sweetie your response really helped me. God bless you :)

ummm lol no your question did not offend me at all. I actually didn't know who i would end up marrying. I used to imagine who it could be, but at that point didn't think i could actually end up liking a relative until I gave him a chance ;)
