Hello all

I will be doing a short landing soon from USA to Canada. I have a wells Fargo bank a/c here in the USA. I checked wells fargo have branches in Canada as well. I have couple of questions:

1. Will the immigration officer accept proof of fund if I produce a wells fargo bank letter stating my available funds in the bank? What kind of POF and which bank does the IO accept?

2. Is it better to apply for SIN when I do a short landing. Or can it be applied anytime when I move to Canada permanently?

Thank you

1. Yes Wells Fargo docs will do. Get a statement of your account (stamped) and a letter confirming (1) you're the account owner and (2) the balance on the account. They won't charge you, at least they didn't charge me.

2. I don't think it matters. In fact, in my view, if you can get it at the airport the better - one less thing to worry about.

Is the account balance and the name of account owner enough for the bank letter for landing purposes? Or does it also need to contain the six month average balance and account opening date? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand you, but for the letter, your name and available balance are sufficient. The banks have a standard letter I believe, usually addressed "to whom it may concern". If they're interested in looking at the account activity, you can refer them to the statement. Be sure to get the statement stamped though, for authentication purposes.

Thanks for the clarification!

@Hamidmoutaouakil
I'm not sure if your asking the same questions or not as they're already answered...
But just in case its not clear:

(1) The IO will accept a wellsfargo bank letter (or any other bank). I advise you include a copy of your account statement as well, stamped by the bank. Both documents should be recent, at worst a week or two. Wells Fargo has a standard letter they use, usually addressed to: "to whom it may concern", stating the account name and balance.

(2) You can obtain your SIN on a short landing. Depending on your POE, you may get it at the airport. Otherwise, it takes minutes at a Service Canada location.

Hope this clarifies?
