Hello Dear Experts…

I am Indian…currently residing and working in Germany. I did my master studies from Germany and want to apply soon for my immigration visa for Canada….

Just a question:

According to http://www.cic.gc.ca/ my points are 70, providing that I have High Proficiency of English Language. Does someone advice me for IELTS???....Should I go for IELTS now or I can write IELTS afterwards (what time would be good to write IELTS??)….So please respond to my post so that I can start the process asap.

when shpuld I supposed to submit my IELTS score...with application or after application???

Thanks a lot!!!

You would be using the simplified application process, which requires only the form and fees up front.

They will ask you later for other documents, including IELTS.

Dear Friend...

Thanks for the info. I am going for simplified application process. So when should I expect the call to submit IELTS score?? Beacuse on the official web site www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/language-testing.asp it says...

1.You must

Make arrangements for testing by an approved organization. You will have to pay the costs.
Include the results of your test with your immigration application.

2. On this link you will see.....http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/faq-simple.asp

Q14: I have just taken a language proficiency test at a designated organization (such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) or the Test d’évaluation de français (TEF)). Can I submit the results now?

If you apply after September 1, 2006, (under the simplified application process) no supporting documents are accepted at the outset. Please only submit your language test results once you have been asked by the visa office to submit supporting documentation. Any documents submitted prior to this will be returned. If you take the language test within one year of submitting your simplified application, those results remain valid and will be accepted as supporting documentation by the visa office.
Both points 1 and 2 are controvercial

So I got confused!!....please help me to understand this situation!!!! So that I can decide to take the test...

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Simplified means - you have to submit only application and you have enough time to submit the "IELTS" result and other supporting docs. Don't submit now let them ask you to submit. Even no need to take the test now, as this is valid for limited period. Be ready to give the test any time on asking by CIC. Don't worry. Best of luck.

No IELTS is NOT a must. As it reads from CIC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/factor-language.asp) there are two options: (1) take a language test or (2) provide other written proof of your abilities. Instead of taking IELTS you can write a letter explain how good your English is. Since you're a Master's, a comment from your supervisor on your English would be a great help too. Actually this is the way I and many of the people I know chose. CIC never asked me to take IELTS test. The bad side is that you never know how many points CIC will give you. If you want to make sure you get 16 points for your language then take IELTS.

Hello aivoges......thanks for info!!

1.Shall I submit the language ability proof with the application? Or on the request via CIC Officer?

2.If I submit my English Language Proof with application and during review of my application, if CIC Officer will not be satisfied then he will directly rejects my application (because I will loose my Language Points) or will he ask me to write IELTS??...

3.Can I provide my language ability proof from my current employer (as working in American Company) and from university??

Your reply will be appreciated!!!

Vishs

1) You have to submit the language ability proof with the application. Otherwise the application will be returned to you.

2) Two cases might happen: i) they'll give fewer points than you expected or ii) ask you to take IELTS. The second case will delay your application for a few months until you hand in your IELTS results. If you are not very confident they'll give you more than 67 points than take the test :)

3) Yes you can.

Dear aivoges...

I don’t need to submit my IELTS score with the application if I am applying for simplified application process that is what I understood from the forum discussions and the official website since last 2 days...and if i submit the IELTS score with my application then it will be returned to me.....and you suggested me the way around

Other senior members PMM, thaiguy please confirm to avoid confusion!!!

Hi vishs: I'm sure if you don't submit anything as a proof of your language ability (either a letter or IELTS) the application will be returned to you within a month even if you grew up in an English speaking country like US or UK. This is what have happened to lots of ppl I know. If you don't have IELTS, you MUST have a written explanation of your language proficiency claim. They might ask you to take IELTS later, they might not depending on how convincing your explanation is.

It would appear the Aivoges doesn't know what s/he is talking about. If you are submitting a SAP (application) then no information is sent with the application as stated in the instructions. Although once you are requested the supporting documentation 3/4 years down the road, you can submit a statement of your English/French proficiency, unless your mother tongue is English/French and all your education was in English/French and the day to day language at work is English/French it is most likely that CHC will request that you submit IELTS, CELPIP or TEF. In the past CHC was accepting statements of language proficiency, but at interview the applicant required an interpretor, although claiming excellent language skills. It would appear that someone else wrote the statement for them. If you take the IELTS during the processing time of the application, before additional documents are requested, CHC will accept those results.

Hi PMM...

Thanks for your guideline. I was totally confused before receiving your post....now the things are clear for me.

If I am following SAP (from Germany), my education (Higher Secondary School, Bachelor and Master) was in English, also I am working from last 1 and half years in Germany and day to day working language is English. (as its American Company)

What do you think....shall I submit the language proficiency letter or IELTS would be better option to secure my points? Or can I submit both up on immigration Officer's request?

According to you what would be best time for me to write IELTS...I am applying for visa in Jan. 2008

Thanks a lot PMM!!!

Vishs

1. You don't submit ANYTHING with the SAP application
2. Take IELTS sometime around the submission of the application and keep the results for when requested.
3. Your mother tongue is probably not English, so you will need either IELTS or CELPIP
