When I sent my renewal application off, the website said 93 days. Mine took 10 months to renew. I sent my application to renew last March, only received the card last month. Since 2011 when I landed I had been out of Canada just over two weeks when I went to the UK on holiday. Nothing to require any further checks been working full time (in a job that requires RCMP security checks) since the year I landed. They never contacted me for more info etc.

It was this ridiculous amount of time it took to renew which made me fork out the $630 to apply for citizenship, and that process from the date I posted the application to the day I got approved for citizenship was less than 2 months (when the website said 12 months)

The dates they give on the website are a 'guide' as they call them.

As for zineb83, don't overload them with documents they haven't asked for when you send the application. The only extra docs I sent were copies of my NofA which even the guy at the interview said it's handy I sent them as they would have had to ask the CRA. By all means take evidence with you to the interview but not send it with the application.

CIC said that PR renewals and Citizenship applications can be done at the same time as it is two completely separate departments that process them hence why I sent my Citizenship application off while still waiting for my renewal of the PR card.
It took lot of time to get your PR card renewed. I am not sure what happened however every case is different.
On the good side, your citizenship process is almost complete, so cheers and enjoy!

Yes it was a ridiculous amount of time to get it renewed. Just don't want people to think that the time scale shown on the CIC website is definate because it can take a hell of a lot longer. I made the mistake of sending off for renewal 3 days before my card expired but for anyone else I would advise getting it renewed 6 months before it expires if you have the right amount of required days.

It's up to you. In case your citizenship process does not complete by August and you need to travel outside Canada in an emergency or urgently then you may need your valid pr card to return to Canada or you need to apply for PRTD outside Canada.

It's only $50 to renew a PR card, if there's a chance you will need to travel just renew it. When you do your test, it's only a matter of a few days and you will know if you will get the Citizenship or will need further time. When I did my test, after 2 days my status changed to 'Decision Made'

So a quick update! We finally got through to an AMAZING call center agent. She was very gracious and helpful. They did receive the fingerprint report from RCMP and said they have all the information they need at the moment. Hopefully this will be it and we get news of DM and Oath soon!

Hi. I got the FP request on march 1st. Make it on march 6. Emailed RCMP and replied my email that they sent the results to cic st. Clair office on march 9. Called cic right after i got the email to make sure they receive it. They told me that she has a note that i have done my FP on march 8. And they are still waiting for criminality results. I dont understand what is going on. Very confusing. Will call again by next week.

Yeah, we were told they are still doing their checks although they received the FP report. Not sure what that means either. I guess we just have to wait and see. Keep us posted!

My wife and I did the test on Feb 17 and passed.
I got a finger print request on Feb 22 and sent it to them in early March.

My wife's status was changed to Decision Made today but my kids and my status are still In Process!

Is this a usual situation?

hi all,

im new here and will be applying next month..
just reading all these posts and wondering if it would be a good idea to do fingerprints n send along with application ( i know they dont request it). would it help speed up the process in anyway?

thanks in advance.

don't do it. not everyone is asked for it thus don't complicate the things. send what is only asked as per the document checklist.

No that's a bad idea, why would you do that if they haven't requested it? Not everyone is required to submit fingerprints and you will just cause confusion with your application. Only submit what is asked for, I don't know why so many people don't understand that. My package to apply for citizenship was smaller than my package to renew my PR card and I got decision made within two months of sending the application.

Arab country or not, it doesn't matter. I was born in Lebanon and have an Arabic name so don't be so paranoid. Only give them what they ask for when they ask for it. Hopefully your application will go smoothly too and just take it as it comes and everything will be fine.
