I am little confused regarding FBI certificate. Should I print the fingerprint form and give it to my local police ? If so,is there a special paper I should use? My police department has their own forms,so should I let them take my prints on their forms and just include it with fd-258 form?
Thank you,

If you look up on the FBI website, they have mentioned that you may print the fingerprint form online from their site and use it. However, I would strongly encourage you to obtain the official FBI fingerprinting card(as opposed to printing it on a paper) and get your fingerprints taken by a forensic professional/fingerprinting expert.

The mounts on the fingerprints need to be clearly visible(or atleast passable) for you to obtain a certificate from FBI. That's precisely why trying to get the fingerprints on a paper might not work out so well.

No point risking something that's not worth risking!

Also, please do not forget to mention your full name, date of birth on the fingerprinting card before you send it to FBI. Enclose a covering letter.

Could I do it myself if I know the correct way, or it has to be done by police or an authorized agency?

FBI Criminal record in no longer given with finger-print cards. I recently applied for the FBI certificate and got a letter back from the FBI stating "No Record". That is all you get to submit to your local VO.

Fingerprints must be taken by Police or government authorized fingerprints experts.

take your finger-prints from your local Sheriff office, if you live in USA!

In USA Sheriff and local Police station also do this FBI manual fingerprinting and live Scaning for local State DOJ fingerprint.
So, both options are available, but in some are sherrif is not available for FBI fingerprint service and the sheriff will guide you to find out this service at nearest police station. My advice is before visit sheriff first visit local police station.

No you cannot. You need the CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY from the fingerprint expert on their letter head(basically a covering letter the company provides) to send to the FBI

All Sheriff offices in USA would do finger-printing if you tell them that you are immigrating to Canada.

Great Go kern county in California sherrif office to Bakersfield (all sheriff offices) you will sure get your answer kummy that "all sheriff offices are not doing fingerprints in the USA".I visited before all sherrif offices in this area, even 1 local town police station nearest my home this police station guide me to go another police station because they transfered finger print service to another police station which is the 8miles from town were I used to stay. I am not saying that Sheriff is not doing this fingerprints job but police stations are more available than sheriff offices.

The purpose "immigration to Canada " that you have to write down in FBI form (Card).

Sorry Omm, you cud be right. I went to my local Sheriff office in Iowa.

Great IOWA (I passed IOWA area when I drive my car from California to Massachusetts - relocation for job), basically all these services available most of the police station becasue the primary difference is that the local Police serve the city/town area where as the Sheriffs serve the un-incorporated areas of the county only. So, that's why the police department have more facilities than sheriff but sheriff have more power than police, in some state sheriff holds complete jail services but in some state police holds complete jail service too, I don't know about IOWA but in California Kern county I seen that police holds jail services, rest of all criminal checks activity services at local town/urban/municipality area but not county area that's the Sheriff have hold.

Hi,

I recently did my finger printing. I read the FBI website for all the instructions and took a printout of the Finger printing card online and took it to my local county Law Enforcement Center. (I googled to find where i can get finger printing services in my state/city).
When i went there, they had their own card and charged me $10 for the card and a professional came and took my finger prints on the card and she signed the card and told me to fill the remaining information such as name, DOB, etc...

Hardly, took me about 10 minute to get the finger prints on the card. Why take risk by printing the card online and doing the finger prints on your own, might as well spend a little $10 and get it done without any hassles.

Do a google search for "finger printing services" in your area and am sure you will get plenty.

All the best !!
