Hi,

If anyone can advise me I'd be so grateful.

I have my PR and I thought my employment possibilities would improve once I had it... but after up to almost 800 job applications (some admittedly were one click applications while others (almost 200) were individually tailored resume and cover letters etc.) in the last 9 months and I can barely even get a phone interview. I'm currently a program manager (basically a project manager who manages multiple high level projects), have an MA, 5 years Canadian experience and no one will even talk to me. I've exhausted my network, tried various online methods (job boards, linkedin, recruitment agencies and applying on company websites etc.) and networking. I'm not living in Toronto but have mainly focused on that city. I have an address there which is on my resume. I'd be willing to look elsewhere in Canada but I can't just move to a new city with nothing and network in the hope of just finding something.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Strange , what type of projects? Where do you live now? Have you tried speaking to recruiters?

Guys need an advise...After landing in Canada is it an good idea to do an MBA from good local college. Idea is to avoid wasting time on finding jobs and instead to use network of MBA students/faculties to get decent jobs post completion of MBA degree. please give feedback.

Could anyone advice whether IT development experience on using Smartstream TLM reconciliation is common or not in Canada?

You should not look at jobs as white or blue collar. For all positions, look at what you can get. If you want to continue what you do now, first try getting a job in the same or similar field. If that doesn't work out, take what you can get. If you have a choice, is it better to you to work in a call centre for $10 an hour vs. warehouse for $17? The first is a white collar job, the 2nd is a blue collar job. Would you enjoy the call centre job more than the warehouse job? To know this, you really have to try both. Would you have a problem telling people back home that you work in a blue collar job? These are all questions you have to answer before you take any job. You have to look at your options and take the one that looks best to you, balance of money vs. enjoyment if you can't have both.

Hi, thank you for sharing your thought.
Can you please tell me. My education qualification is in management but my experience of 5years in IT (Software testing -manual, NOC 2283). Can i get job in Canada in Software testing based on my experience or recruiters may ask for similar kind of degree like Bachelor in computer science.
How easily we can get the job in IT?

That sounds like a good plan. I am a mechanical engineer and thinking of doing the same thing. MBA in supply chain or MSc project Management.
Besides the benefit that you mention, it would give us a Canadian qualification which most of the recruiters are looking for, secondly many masters program offer internship opportunities which could be an easier option to break in to Canadian labour market.
Good luck to you.

Hi Everyone,

I am marketing professional Mumbai, India with 10 years of experience in marketing and branding. Have been in fashion retail industry for the last 7 years. Me and my wife have just received our PR and are eager to arrive in Canada. I have a couple of questions which i hope to get answers from this forum:

1.Are there any marketing networking groups which i can join to help get a job in Canada? I don't have any issues to join as a marketing co-ordinator or any junior position in my field of interest before getting the big break i aspire to achieve.

2. Most people advise not to arrive in December/January as its very cold and gloomy. We as such don't have much issues with this kind of weather but to understand if it would be an hindrance to move about and seek jobs or carry out daily chores.

P.S: We intend to stay in Ontario or BC.

Hi. I am also interested in Project management. Currently have a post grad diploma in project management. Which colleges or universities in Canada are offering an MS in Project Management? If you know them please assist by providing information. Am actually thinking of taking the masters route as well.

1. what indurstry were you working for in the past?
2. In which region were you working before?
3. What is your education exact (major specialisation)?
All that matters in order to find your potential employer.
It might be, that for most of the postions you might not be suitable (too overqualified or from different type of projects - project management for automotive production is not the same as for medicine production, IT projects or construction..)
Especially if your previous experience is more production or construction related, it might be a better idea to target a different region than Toronto itself.
