Guys - My wife is sponsoring me under family class. She has recently moved to Canada so she is still looking for the job. We don't want to waste time and submit our application this week. As she is not working in Canada and does not have a bank balance, what should be the best response to the question 5 of checklist IMM5533. " if you are not working in Canada, provide other documentation showing that you can support the person(s) you are sponsoring. This must include detailed explanation of how you plan to support yourself and the sponsored person on separate piece of paper"

Please help us with this question.

Thank you!

Just go with the honest response - how are you guys financially supporting yourselves now and in the future? You will need to prove that you are able to support yourselves and that you will not need to utilize welfare/government support.

Is it okay to apply without job or should we wait for her job?

Do you have significant savings to prove that you can support yourselves without going on welfare? How can you afford to live if you are not working... you will need to be able to explain this

In your case you can show the amount of funds you both currently have to prove that you will use these funds once you immigrate to Canada. A member from this forum whose wife ( Sponsor) was not working in Canada submitted an affadavit from the wife's father that he will support both of them during the initial period when the husband will move to Canada and will also let them live at his place until they get their own place. This worked for them.

How much amount should we show in the bank to prove that we can support us without any social assistance?

See post #5.

If it helps at all, IRCC demand people on working holidays have $2500 to support a single person for 'the first few months' - so $1,000 per person per month might be a starting minimum.

Will total of10K CADs be enough in the bank and an SOP stating that she is hunting for a job, she is qualified orthodontist from Pakistan and now studying to get Canadian credentials to practice there.

Guys - As my wife is still looking for the job, so my wife's brother, who is non resident PR, has offered to help us with this. He is ready to transfer some funds to her account. So in total we will have around 16K-17K CADs. Is this amount enough? We plan to show these funds as her savings.

Other questions is about the transfer, as we plan to show the funds as her savings, so would it raise questions if he transfers funds to her account? Or should he give the money to someone travelling to Canada to give her, so she can deposit directly to her account on her own? Is there any better solution, provided her brother is willing to help. Currently, he is not residing in Canada, he made his first landing and went back without PR card to the country where he works.

Please share your opinions and experiences. Thanks!

Hi,

I just wanted to share what we did with our application, actually we're going to submit our application this week.

I being the sponsor of my husband, I am currently on maternity leave right now and I was not eligible for EI benefits as my total number of hrs did not meet the EI requirements. Also I am living with my sister here in Canada. To make it short I am not financially stable as of now.

What I did is I made an explanation letter stating our Financial or Settlement plan once my husband is approved. I itemize it by the following info:

1. Lodging and Accomodation - i explained that we will live in my sister's house until we found an apartment to live in. Then I also provide a letter from my sisters and her husband - signed by them.

2. Financial circumstances- i explained everything.. i'm still employed but on maternity leave, since I completed a 10month course here for Logistics and Supply Chain Management.. I included the email of my school employment specialist that she will help me on my job searching after my mat leave. Also, i mentioned that since PR application processing will take several months, my husbands severance pay for 25yrs of work service amounting to xxxxxxx will use as our starting for 3-4 months expenses once my husband is here.

3. Plans in finding work in Winnipeg for my husband.- I detailed all our plans in finding work for my husband...

Also, we provided an essay to prove that our relationship is genuine and on going.. about 4 pages..

I hope that I will approve as a sponsor even if I am not financially stable as of now and pregnant with twins.. i just came back here in Canada for a vacation from our home country.. We will just try our luck...

There is no need to transfer the money. Get a notarized letter from her brother stating that he will provide financial support if needed.
