Financial Issue. PLEASE HELP!!

So after a LONG time waiting I finally got an email from CIC...telling me I may be inadmissible because my husband receives social assistance. He is on AISH due to a heart problem and they want me to send in more information proving we can provide for ourselves. I'm having a breakdown...I don't know what to do. I thought money didn't matter when under the family class sponsorship. Has anyone had this problem if so what are some things I can send in that can help? I also have to send more proof of living together basically. I have our lease and a note from our landlord but other than that I'm not on his bills or anything-what else could I provide.
I'm seriously heartbroken right now because I don't want to get denied.

They want to be assured that you will not need social assistance to live in Canada. Assuming you will not take a moment and think how you can prove that. For example will you work? If so show your history and that you are looking for work. How will two people in Canada support themselves if one person is on AISH which is barely enough for one person.

But that's the thing, I don't have an open work permit so I can't work or look for work, and I've lived here since 2014 with no problem living off the benefits. I just don't fully understand what they would want...

Immigration laws are made to ensure that tax dollars are being kept where they are...in Canadian pockets. Not immigrants or students or even foreign workers like us. That being said, you applied for Sponsorship. Meaning that the one sponsoring you should be self-reliant and not taking any of that tax dollar. Immigration doesn't really care if he makes minimum wage as long as he isn't taking social assistance i.e. AISH . and that he is responsible to support you financially within 3 years you become permanent even if you have a job.

I heard disability didn't count against their social assistance policy that was more towards welfare... Especially since he could have other wages coming in, he just can't right at this moment. I've lived here with him for 2.5 years and we've done fine but I'm just so nervous that even with all the financial proof we have we'll still get denied.

AISH actually provides additional income for spouses and dependent children. is that what CIC has an issue with?

For the proof of living together, the things I sent for mine were:
-leases with both of us in it
-travel vouchers/itinerary with both of you in it
- bank statements
- other official documents or letters that come from a corporation/govt agency addressed to either of you but indicates you were living with him at the same time period in any given address/es. Example would be I submitted one bank statement each I received for the 3 addresses I lived in with my spouse. My spouse gave copy for every bill that shows the address for each one of the 3 address. I think I submitted a mixture of both since we have bills named to a specific person i.e. I have the phone bill, my spouse has the cable bill, etc.
- bank snapshot showing joint account for both
- marriage certificate if married.
- at least one photo if you went vacation with him.

The proofs have to be spread out over time. Meaning they should not focus on one specific month or year only. It has to prove that both of you were together since applying up to now.

No they don't. At least my husband's worker told him that it doesn't matter if we're married or not he doesn't get extra money, and he's never gotten extra income for me. The only assistance he gets that I get is my medication is paid for. They're saying their problem is that he may not be able to support the both of us on AISH. It even says on the CIC website that you are not eligible to sponsor someone if you get social assistance for reasons other than being disabled. And that's the only reason he's on it. I'm just trying to figure out why they say that online, then email me saying it's basically not ok.

Yes, exactly. Because AISH comes from the government itself through taxes. CIC classifies AISH as social assistance which is a big no-no when applying to sponsor someone else. CIC doesn't really classify AISH as income simply because you did not work for it. It was handed down to you.

AISH if for disability though, which they even state is fine on CIC. If you get social assistance due to disability (which is why MY husband is on it) they claim they don't care. People have been on AISH and sponsored spouses before. And like I stated, he's not getting extra money because of me.

mail envelopes would not really count though. You can try sending it. What I read somewhere is that it has to be with some company or official government thing since they might try to verify if those were true with the company.

Are you married? My partner and I are married. We are guys. None of us switched to anyone's last name but my partner wants to. I haven't decided yet as to what to do. If you are married to him then all you need is marriage certificate given at the registries. If you are common law, the change of name would help.

Yeah we're married. I guess things like last names don't really both people as long as you have a certificate. I didn't think envelopes would count but I was just curious. We have mail with both of our names on it, but I want to send more proof then they even need so I didn't know.

I re-read what you originally posted since you said AISH is not included since he is disabled. So I may be thinking that it is possible also that the immigration officer in charge of your file may or may not know that AISH is not included. in this case, we will assume it is not included as a social assistance. Your next step would be to satisfy the immigration officer on that part. You will need to produce paperworks from his case worker proving that he is disabled and that is the only reason he is on AISH. it would be good if the case worker provided her own details and signs for it too as the immigration officer may contact her. With this, you may also include a letter addressed to the officer why you didn't think it was an issue in the first place. He may already know about it and he is just testing you (which they do on a regular basis). You may also include that you don't plan to be a burden for him financially speaking and is looking forward to work when you are legally allowed.

Also, AISH allows a very low number of hours your husband can work while on it. Maybe a casual, light work will help satisfy the immigration officer as to the willingness of your husband to support you financially if given the chance. If any of you have properties, now is the time to show it too.
