hi Everyone,

I applied to sponsor my parents and today received a letter that financial assessment wasn't successful. Is there any way I can challenge this decision? I was only $600 short in 2015 and now I make even higher than 2017.

Mine Required
2015 $46,876 - $47476
2016 $59,223 - $48404
2017 $57,525 - $48404

The financial requirements are black and white - you either meet them or you do not (in which case you don't qualify to sponsor your parents). The only way to challenge the decision is to prove you did in fact meet the minimum income requirement back in 2015.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have a file pending with CRA for 2015 but this assessment was finalized before that. I chose to still proceed with my application despite the financial assessment failed. So the file was sent to the local embassy of Canada in my home country. Am I challenging this with IRCC or Embassy now?

You appeal to IRCC, if that is the route you choose to go. Expect it to take a fairly lengthy time to appeal and I wouldn't be holding my breath on being successful. As Scylla, the requirement is black and white.

And hopefully, your amendment with CRA is a trueful one (not just to modify your income so that you "made more" in that year) . Otherwise, you will be committing a fraud with both the taxman and immigration.

It is a truthful one but it took more than 3 months to review my submission so I am still waiting for their decision.

Think even CIC will question your reassessment a few years later. I would anticipate showing what income you discovered all of a sudden when you were preparing your PGP application.

If it's a truthful income addition, you should be prepared to provide proof of it. They will be able to see that you suddenly declared income to meet the PGP requirements, so they will very likely ask for proof of it.

Thank you for all the answers and warnings. CRA is to conclude it's assesment at the end of this month. I do have receipts for the income received. I have simply forgot to add them during 2015. So once I realized that I will be few hundred dollars short on the 2015, I have go over my old bank account and identified all the income that I haven't declared. Despite being short only $600, I am declaring way more than that amount as I worked as a referee for all summer and made considerable income. Since the referee board was depositing the funds to my account and didn't send me a T form for that. I have never thought about declaring it.

I hope this helps, I just wanted to explain my situation little more. If I have known that I do not qualify for this, I would never apply to this as I have taken someone else's spot. But since we paid lots of money and already invested lots of time to this. I do not want $600 difference to make or break this application.

Did you only referee for that one summer? If not, you may need to update your tax of all years that you worked as a referee in summers.

Hi all! Now the Embassy in Ankara asking me to submit my assessments from 2016 and 2017. Is this a good or bad sign?

Should be a good sign.
