Hi,

So I hv got CoPR and I am planning to land in June 2015. My wife will most probably get an intra company transfer to Canada (Montreal) while I will have to look for jobs. I have 6yrs of experience in investment banking and corporate finance. I was wondering how easy/tough it is to find a job in Canada for a finance professional. I am NOT a CA and does not hv qualifications for an accountant related job.

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

Banking/Finance and IT are two sectors in Canada, where you can get a job easier compared to other sectors..

just to remind you here.. that I used " easier compared to other sectors"..

as it will be a challenging task for all newcomers to Canada to get their first job in the same field as they were doing in their home country..

Initially, new people are doing all kind of jobs to survive and meet the expenses... irrespective of whether it is their field of job or not..

Thanks man. I think the leap of faith will hv to be taken. "No pain, no gain"

Zanny, I too have investment banking experience along with IT testing experience, but I will be looking for testing roles. Not sure on the opportunities though in both fields.

Hoping for the best ;)

Hope there are good finance roles. I am an ACCA, Masters in accounting with CFA L2.
I am just wondering what will i be doing if didnt get a proper job.

You can enrol yourself for Canada CA / CPA course and get certified with canadian degree.
Good Luck

I am quite sure ACCA along with CFA L2 is quite impressive.
I think you will get a proper job.

Keep us posted.

You seem to have an excellent timeline. You managed to get PPR within 2 months for AOR?

All the best Zanny! Guess you would be on your way to Montreal by now. Getting a job in Finance / banking sector may be a bit difficult in the beginning if you do not have any certifications that are valued in Canada. You may start with a certification or a course in McGill / Concordia / Université de Montréal. If your wife's getting transferred to her Montreal office then she might take some more pointers from the finance department guys in her office - they might give some useful tips for your job hunt.
