Oh, I wasn't familiar with that. I was speaking from the immigration perspective, but I don't know much about province-specific Alberta laws (I'm on Ontario). If it's as you describe, and Alberta will look at the POE where you landed, then it might be better to land in Alberta considering your situation.

Finally a PPR!!......LANDED today! 25/11

My wife and my son finally landed today at the Fort Erie Peace Bridge. We did the "Flag pole" landing and went straight to one of the counter where we were "Welcomed" by a rude officer.
A little suprising at the way she talked to us knowing that we were there to land. Example like, snatching the passport from my hand and her rude attitude was a little suprising. This is not what Canada is known to be and should definitley not be the first experience when a person lands in what he/she would Canada a new home.
I eventually had to talk to her supervisor about this lady's attitude. The supervisor was understanding and apologized for the behaviour which accoridng to her, everyone within CBSA are trained to be touch (no questions!!) but professional with a good integrity. Our friend seemed to lack the basics of these things.
As a Citizen, I was pretty adamant when I talked to the Supervisor since I enjoy the same rights as these people.
Anyways, all is all, we landed with no issues from a paperwork stand point and the highlight was the CBSA Supervisor (I thought she was a little senior officer) apologizing for her team member's behaviour.

Haha the way I see it, they can be as rude as they want... at the end of the day, unless something has happened (i.e. criminal inadmissability) they can't take your landing away from you. Again, congrats ecs! You must be on top of the world right now, and enjoy every bit of it!

I've entered at the border almost 10 times (once for landing, once after landing, and a bunch of times before for various reasons). One guy had the "tough guy act" down but still was polite and courteous, all the others were a pleasure to deal with. I wouldn't worry about it.

And as the others said, once your PR has been approved there's not much they can do. And after landing you have the right of entry, so you can behave almost any way you like and still get in. :)

Suin, there is absolutely no reason to be scared. I lived about 5 mins from thr Border and used to cross border twice a week to go to Buffalo. Most of the times, the officers are professional but this time we were not unlucky.
But who the heck cares, atleast I did not give a damn for it. As I told the supervisor, I am a Canadian Citizen and enjoy the same rights and responsibilities that the officer enjoys. They may have a little more responsibility because of their job that does not mean they can be rude bastards!
I knew they could do nothing to us! So don't be afraid. Unless you are trying to import drugs or guns, nothing to worry.

thank you for your reply, ecs. I feel a bit better now. No, we are not importing anything at all, just crossing the border to and back to make landing.

Anyway folks, '
Here is an update. Last week I landed at Fort Erie knowing I lived only 5 minutes from the border. We were moving to AB where we need not wait for 3 months for health coverage to start. However if you are a tranfer applicant from another province it will take 2 months for AB to take over your health coverage.
What we did in order to avoid the timeline is we landed (given that we were so close) with an address in Edmonton. We then flew out to Alberta and applied for the health coverage. We did not have any problems in getting health coverage.

you mean you already have a coverage and do not need to wait for the health card itself?

Alberta apparently has different rules, so you get health coverage right away after landing if you are going straight to Alberta. Different provinces have different laws, so different rules may apply. In Ontario a new immigrant always have to wait 3 months for health coverage (unless they already had temporary coverage before landing, in which case they would already have waited 3 months for that to start).
