Filipino CPAs to Canada, What are your plans?

PICPA annual membership fee is only P1,000. FYI lang, PICPA now has a reinstatement program. If you are delinquent in paying your annual dues for more than one year, P2,000 lang ang babayaran + P1,000 for the membership for the current year. So kung matagal nang di nakakabayad, you just have to pay P3,000 and then that's it, updated na ang membership. I got this info from the statement of account from PICPA that I received last august 2010.

Hanggang kailan pwede mag-avail? Saka pwede ba magbayad thru representative from Phils. kasi andito kami sa Middleast?

Naisip ko nga din kung sayang ba tong course ko pagdating sa Canada medyo mahal din kasi. pero recognize naman to sa US. Well anyways kailangan ko muna maipasa then bahala na hehe.

kidding aside, every year ksi since 2006 i've been visiting picpa shaw to pay my dues while attending their seminars. laging my nakapaskil doon na amnesty for delinquent members sa cashier's boothh.......d ko lng maalala ang amount.

i once paid thru bank. pina courier ko lng deposit slip sa kanila

pwede naman po. kaso d prob w/ local chapters mtgal dw magremit yng iba. chances are, khit nagbayad ka sa local chpter nyo ng annual dues, di pa rin ma update records mo sa main office. so may arrears pa rin. kYA pag in a hurry ka to get d cert of good standing, bayad n lng ulit para mapadali. that happend wiht my colleague. aywan lng sa iba. baka ok naman cguro.

CGA-Alberta Evaluation Process (as per my experience)

1. Sent an inquiry via email re process and required docs
<questions@cga-alberta.org>
2. Asked by CGA to create a profile on their website. A number will then be assigned to you (somewhat similar to AOR).
3. Sent the required documents for Evaluation (indicate the number assigned on item#2)
- Certified True Copy of Transcript
- PICPA Certificate of Good Standing (in PICPA sealed envelope)
- Copy of resume (if graduated 10 years of more)
4. Paid the Evaluation fee (less than CAD100) online - via credit card

Notes:
1. Certified True Copy - I submitted a copy which was certified by our school registrar way back in year 2006 and they accepted it
2. PICPA - A friend got the certificate on my behalf at PICPA's main office at Shaw. I just gave her an authorization letter and my PRC card (not sure now if it was the original or just a photocopy). The last payment I did was way back in 1996 so they assessed me to pay 4,500 pesos up to June 2011 (4.5 years, Php1K/year). Sorry for me, they said there was no amnesty at that time. Then additional 100 pesos for the certification. Heard from the same friend, it is for free if you get it from your designated PICPA chapter. I believe it was pretty quick and she got it the same day. I just requested for 2 copies of the certificate and 2 PICPA envelopes din so ako na lang naglagay ng address sa envelope.

Yung naka-RED ang mga subjects na kailangan natin kunin. Yung naka-BLUE naman advice nila pa-assess mo sa IQAS then from there possible pa rin ma-exempt, depende yata eto sa course description mo, d ko pa sure d ko pa nabisita website ng IQAS.
Actually yung BC1 dapat blue kulay kaso di ko na magawang palitan kulay, di pa ganun kagalingan mag-post ang lola mo. Ha,ha.
Yung Fast Track, parang jump ka na agad sa advance level dahil nga sa pagiging CPA mo sa atin as compared sa mag-uumpisa ka talaga sa Stage 1 like kung college freshman ka o walang pang business degree(no or minimal transfer credit)
Preho tayo ng VO (London), medyo mabagal kesa Manila kaya PITNOG lang (Patience is the name of the game). Goodluck!

don ka na mghanap ng partner sa canada, hehe. colorful mga lahi don. ;D dami kang choices.

sabi sa nbabsa ko na forum maganda ang CA lalo na kng CPA ka from the phils. nag email ako sa ICAO for evaluation and they replied na naevaluate na nila ang PICPA. apparently, they do not evaluate school transcripts like CGA, but professional body tlga. so, take up na lng ng course on canadian business law then get training from an approved CA training office. so i think, di masyado magastos compared with studying 9 courses to pursue CGA.

but here's the catch, very stiff ang competition ng mga student trainees. mahirap daw tlga makapasok sa training office. i've read one story from a pinoy immigrant sa toronto na more than 40 resumes na daw pinasa nya sa mga training offices, but not even one called her for an interview. kaya nag shift sya ng gears enroute CGA.

sabi ng ibang forumers, 2 from out 3 years training ay field work, u have to really go to ur clients' business locations. i dont think kayanin ko kasi i dont know how to drive plus the weather.

what's good with CGA is that u can study from home. so u can still work full time and study part time. yun nga lng, nabasa ko schedule of course fees nila for 2010-2011 and each subject ranges between CND$ 660-1280 excluding taxes! buti lng sna kng willing ang employer mo na i-shoulder yng expenses, and if that's d case, nakatali ka naman sa kanila for a period.

balak ko sanang magpa evaluate sa CGA ontario to have an official evaluation. it would cost more than CND $400. while free ang transcript evaluation ng CMA and CA.

Hi Mimi, thanks so much sa reply ha, yeps im in cotabato now, follow-up lang po, about the ca, is that true rin for alberta na picpa na ang inevaluate and as a proof, un good standing ang papakita natin that's it? may board exam rin ba ang CA and CGA? hmmm parang pagalingan nga un pag pasok sa CA, maiba ako, would u know if na belong ako sa picpa manila, pwede ba i shift to picpa cotabato? also, whats your technique in case sa canada na tau and we will be needing more documents, so makikiusap tau sa mga friends and relatives dito to get the docs for us, would like to prevent that as much as possible, also, siguro mag leave nalng tau ng maraming blank signatures in case needed pa ang mga authorization2x na yan... :-\

I read sa website ng PICPA, may link dun about amnesty for membership, starting aug. this year till march 2011, they have an amnesty na 1K lang bayaran covered na ang current year membership mo and the arrears

di ako masyado nakapagbasa reqmt sa ibang province eh. para sure i-google mo na lng website nila, alberta bound ka pala.

i believe lahat tayo cpa from pinas automatic member sa picpa manila kasi sa isang cert binigay nila sa akin, passing the CPA board is sufficient requirment 4 membership wiht the insitute ang nakalagay. yng local chapter membership eh optional di ba? dpende kng san ka located.

as much as possible gusto ko kunin lahat related dox b4 i leave for canada, Godwilling. pero just in case di maiwasan, better leave behind special power of attorney, powerful than simple authorization, hehe.
