Filing taxes with wife waiting for PR

Hey everyone.

Not sure if this is the right place for this. But I was wondering if anyone has any experience filing taxes with a spouse still waiting on PR. We've been living together for most of the year in Toronto. But she's just here on a visitors visa for the time being, so I've been the only source of income. I've tried doing starting my taxes online but none of the options really allow for me to file properly. They're asking me to enter a SIN for her, but she doesn't have one and can't obtain one on a visitors visa. And none of these automated tools seem to take into account the possibility of a spouse with no SIN on a visitors visa.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me what my options are? I'll likely go to H&R block.. as much as I don't want to... but I'm worried they won't know much about my specific case either. Do I need a tax ID for my wife? Is there anything else that I need to know?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Really? I've heard of people doing this and then later getting a request for a proper SIN from the CRA. They also ended up owing a bunch of money for some reason related to not having a SIN...

My tax man put the 000 000 000 in for my husband as well as his W2 income from the States. The only way it has had an effect on me is I no longer get my child tax anymore. Which I did have to pay a months worth back as I reported our marriage a month late.

I've claimed my common law spouse (whom I am sponsering) for the last 2 years, my tax lady just enters 000 000 000, and zero income.
My spouse is here in Canada with me but has no income as we applied outland.
Have not had any issue as of yet - CRA has not requested an audit or any further documentation.

Accountants recommend this, tax software programs recommend it, and even CRA help centre recommends it if you call them. It's an accepted method to indicate one has no SIN, since there is no option to type in "no SIN".

Any money owing on the taxes is due to some other issues or trying to claim credits you weren't eligible for in the first place.
