My family recently received there pr confirmation and visa to land in Canada before January 2020. However I need them here by this summer, I recently last my job and all the money I had I have gotten a place and things in place for there arrival. I don’t have any money to pay for some bill that I have owed and the only option I have is to file bankruptcy or a consumer proposal but I am not sure if this will allow my family to land in Canada or this will allow them to receive there PR cards after landing. I really clarity

How did you sponsor your family?

You can’t sponsor them if you file for bankruptcy. The other issue is how will you support them once they arrive? If you are unable to pay your bills how can you pay for their housing, food, etc. Assume you can’t afford their flights if you currently can’t pay your own debts. You are financially responsible for them so welfare is not an option because you would be paying any welfare they receive.

You should be seeing a credit counsellor. There are non-profit groups that can help you for free.

Okay so what would you advise me to day? They already have there documents to land. Ticket will be purchased by husband.

I am not qualified to advise you of anything you need to speak to a credit counsellor and your lawyer or consultant. You know your financial status. It doesn’t sound like you are in a position to support your husband and children at the moment. At least you should get employed before they arrive so you can provide the basics like food and housing for them. They have until January to arrive. You may want them to arrive as soon as possible but you also have to consider what situation you are bringing them in. I assume you transferred the money to your husband to pay for the tickets so you do have some money saved to pay off some debts. Bankruptcy and consumer proposal do have longterm consequences and should not be considered lightly.

I never said my husband was broke.
But I get you thank you for your time.
It will work out

If your husband has funds then he can help pay off your debts. You are the one claiming you have not enough money to support your family when they arrive in Canada. I am sure you have been supporting your family from Canada so why can’t your husband help pay off your debts and provide money to prepare for your family’s arrival if he has money? I’m sure that will be one of the things a credit counsellor will bring up since you are a family unit.
