If it is your first offense, you can ask the judge politely to reduce the fine to minimum and/or offer to enroll in traffic school as a sign of goodwill.
I don't agree paying the fines if you did not commit the offence. In BC, paying traffic fines might increase your auto insurance premiums.
As in BC, you need to register a dispute form so that you can appear in the traffic court to fight the fines. You can request for interpreter. Just be prepared and you might win. Good luck.
In the end, you can even sue or complain the police officer who ticket you.
