Hi Guys

Am a bit confused and dont know what to do....

I will be traveling to Nigeria, am in a long distance relationship with the love of my life that I met on line, we dating for 2 years and he asked me to marry him and I accepted.

Am a permanent resident as of last year, is it possible after we get married he can come visit while his application is in process and what other documents does CIC request besides the marriage certificate...

I want to be with him as he makes me happy

Unfortunately it's unlikely he will be granted a visitor visa once you are married. However he can certainly apply and there's always some chance he might be approved. To have the highest chance of approval, he must prove that he has strong ties to his home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term.

Note that since you are a PR, you must be living in Canada in order to sponsor him and must continue living in Canada while the application is being processed. Short trips outside of Canada (2-3 weeks) are fine. Anything longer and you can risk having the application refused. So it's quite possible you will have to be separated while his PR application is processed.

Yes - you require a lot more than just the marriage certificate to apply. I would recommend you spend time reading about the application process in detail on the CIC web site and also read through the historical discussions on this forum. Note that if you have never met in person, it is strongly recommended that you not get married on your first trip there (CIC may see your relationship as a marriage of convienience if you do). You should visit him at least once before you make a trip there to get married.

Also....try and spend some time Together in Person before you decide he is the love of your life. Real life is very different than chats online. ( I know this because I met my husband online and we lived together few years before getting married) ....just putting it out there...he may well be amazing man....just make sure he isn't using you to get into Canada (which does happen)

I really have to repeat the warning above: do not get married the first time you meet him. The first trip you take to meet him, just spend time with him and get to know him in real life. Meet as many of his friends and relatives as you can. Go to his hometown, if possible. (I know that in Nigeria it might not be possible.) Then come back to Canada and continue your online relationship.

The second time you visit him, marriage would be OK. Marriages in Nigeria tend to be big, and usually there will be two ceremonies: the traditional ceremony and the official one. There might be three: religious, civil, and traditional. Do what suits your and his beliefs, but just keep in mind that the visa officer will want to know why the marriage ceremony was small, or why you didn't have a traditional ceremony. If you have a good reason, fine, but you might have to explain your choices.

I realize you might want to get married right away, but in the long run, it is better to delay the marriage a bit if this means the processing time will be shorter. yes she is very correct i am a nigerian man.You need to confirm he is not married before and you need to be sure when you arrive in nigeria he takes you to his true parent.Dont marry him the first time when you are visiting and make sure you dont send money to him.
