I am a PR who just started living and working in Canada. My fiancé is an Indian citizen residing and working in the United Arab Emirates. I plan to get married in the next two months and start processing her sponsorship papers immediately. So clearly my questions are two fold - Marriage and pr sponsorship.

Marriage:
- Can we get married in Canada while she is on a visit visa? (note: after our court marriage here - she will return to Dubai to work)
- On account that she travelled on a visit visa to Canada and got married here - can this pose any problem when her pr application is being processed?

Sponsorship:
- Since the currently listed waiting time for PR applicants in the UAE is 23 months and India is 6 months - Is it better for her to apply from India (assuming that as a citizen of India and as a working resident of the UAE, she has the flexibility of choosing)
- Given that she is applying from India and working in another country - what could be the potential reasons that she may need to travel back and forth? Any clue?

Really appreciate the feedback so we can put our best foot forward :)
Thanks

Hi there,

Marriage:

1) Yes you can get married in Canada.
2) It wont pose any problems as long as you can show quality evidence such as chat records, phone records, pictures and other evidences.

Sponsorship:
1) She needs to be residing in UAE for at least an year before she can apply from UAE, otherwise her file will be automatically transferred to New Delhi. It is always at the discretion at the VO to transfer the file to the country of origin. But I strongly suggest you choose New Delhi because the processing times is only 6 months.

2) She will have to travel to India in case they call her for an interview. I suggest that once she gets the Passport Request letter, she travel to India and stay there till she recieves the visa because it is illegal to mail the Indian passport out of or into the country. Also, how will she travel to India if she submits her passport and then they call her for an interview?

Hope this helps.

Maybe you can join the New Delhi thread here to get a better idea about the whole process: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/thread-for-applicants-of-new-delhi-2010-t45583.16650.html

There are specific exit requirements for Gulf residents to fulfill on gaining a PR visa. If she is living and working there, her file MIGHT be transferred to Abu Dhabi in order to ensure she fulfills these requirements before she is given the PR visa.

i had requested New Delhi VO, but they transfered my file to Abu Dhabi the reason being i am living in the gulf for more than a year now.
