Thanks for the reply! Do you mean if I (Canadian) stayed there for longer than 6 months or my spouse? In total I think she was there for 2-3 months tops before we moved on to a different region.
Just to clarify, it is your spouse that is getting the police reports, and it is her location at every point since she was 18 that matters :) If she was only there for a couple of months, she wouldn't need a police report from them -- only for every country she spent at least 6 months in. As you might have noticed in the other thread I responded to, it seems Canada is on that list.

Your location comes into play too during the app process, but not for the purpose of police checks. :)

Thanks for the reply! The reason I ask is that I may have been in Thailand for 6 months but I'm not 100% sure. Since then I've gotten a new passport and they took mine when I got my new one so I don't know for sure. But you don't think that I need to to get police checks?

As a sponsor you may not be eligible if you were in prison, or had ever been convicted of a violent criminal offence, but you would not be asked for your criminal check unless the answer was "yes" to either of those questions.

I won't say NEVER required because each case is unique -- but it's not asked for in the application checklist for the sponsor and from everything I've seen your situation is still what I'd call pretty normal, which means only her background check is required.

What do you mean by lived in Thailand? The reason I ask is that my spouse and I actually met while travelling in Thailand?

Oh don't fret! He has been in to Thailand on 3 different occasions. Once for a longer period of time, we made a mistake on two different dates on pages. So they want to clarify that with us. As its the last step, and yes our relationship recently has prevented us from being apart! As per what the Canuck UK said, however it was not his place to express this nor say it is a red flag for us. They havent even asked us to prove more of a relationship, just asking for background form A and family info again at interview

Oh ok, thanks again. I've never been convicted of any crimes despite any of the travelling I've done, so I appreciate the replies. You guys are helping us out a tonne!

You stated in another post that you haven't lived together for 3 years. Red flags aren't determined by you; for CIC, that is a big red flag, regardless of how you see it.

As Rob_TO explained above, interviews aren't called to clarify forms. CIC sends an email request and asks you to re-submit the forms. You were most likely called for an interview because the 3 years living apart has made the VO question your relationship and they are giving you the chance to explain it in person.

This is a public forum. If you don't want anyone to refer to your situation or discuss it in any way, don't post it.

And I'm a she.
