So, I met my Canadian husband online in Feb 2009. After months of friendship, he proposed in Dec 2009, and he traveled to Jamaica to be with me and get married in May 2010. We had a beautiful wedding ceremony in June, and decided to start the process of getting me to Canada in July.

Someone, I have no idea who, told him it would be easiest if we applied for a TRV, then once I arrived in Canada to visit, start proceedings to apply for permanent residency. So off we went, I applied for a visa, we made plans to leave Jamaica, and then BAM! My visa application was refused, they didn't believe I would return to Jamaica, etc etc etc. And apparently, my perfectly legitimate marriage was one of the things that counted against me.

So we started looking into the process of sponsorship and permanent residency application. Only for our eyes to be opened wide to the realisation that this was not going to be either easy or quick. We are looking at (dear God) years of waiting, of running around to get documents and proof and evidence, and paying money before we can be together in Canada. Including apply for a police record from the FBI because I lived in the US for 18 months when I was 18 years old.

Suffice it to say, I am feeling very angry, very depressed and very tired right now, and we have not yet begun to scratch the surface of this process. I look at all of this and I wonder...everyone usually complains about the US process, how demeaning it is supposed to be. All I know is, I have a US visa that will not expire anytime soon with many close relatives residing there, and yet the Canadian government won't trust me to visit my husband in his native country.

It is not going to take many years. Maybe 1 year. If you look at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp#west you will see that the average in Kingston is 11 months.

If you have a visa for the US, you could go to the US and your husband could visit you there. You can also try for a TRV again once he applies for your sponsorship and has been approved as a sponsor (which takes about a month). You would still have to prove that you will only be visiting and will go back but sometimes it works.

I am so sorry but is true...
The thing is Canada embassy wont give you a TRV when you are already married, they want you to apply for the PR.. just in case you were thinking on staying..
I have the same problem and my husband is in Canada and i am in south america... The thing is that th e time my consulate requieres to process my case is 10 to 18 months... so is frutrating...
I know and i support you..

They say they care and they will do it quick.. but it takes time.. long time and tons of patience
The only thing i see positive throught all this is that the relationship with my husband has become so stong for this not fortunate moments we are experiencing, knowing that in the future.. (hopefully very soon!) we wil be together...

I know is frustrating... and i know is difficult...
But if you wanna be with him is the right thing to do...

PD. in Another post someone suggested me to start making IO voodo dolls... and to buy really long pins.. in desperate times sounds like a gooood idea.. jejeje

Hi there Charlie frustration is the main word when waiting for IMM. My hubby is in JA and we are still waiting and its been almost 16 mths. If you want come on over to the Kingston thread. There is a huge support system there and alot of knowledge. Some get through in a short time others not so lucky. But in the mean time collect everything you need.

Thats why you dont listen to just any sort of people! You just gotta do research and more research.

I am sorry about your situation. But the good news is, people here have really good advice and it will help you in your future reapplication!

And what you feel the fustration, that has happened with everyone here..what you are going through is quite typical i.r. to gathering of information/photos/FBI clearance and so forth. So don't blame your hubby..this is just a screwed up process and it will take a while for you to be with your hubby.

Again, I need to reiterate that you need to do your own research on the CIC website and read the real stories of people here and ask lots of questions.

Good luck!

also, I just want to say that the sponsorship and PR application seem daunting and confusing and complicated, but when taken step by step, it's really not so bad. Just like anything else - there will be moments of frustration, but this forum has a lot of information to offer about how to apply successfully. Do your best, ask questions here, and take it step by step, and you'll be ready to submit the application in no time. I mean, the questions asked on the forms are about your own life - and it's not like it's some really complicated math test where you fail if you don't have the exactly right answers (even though it feels that way sometimes). Every application is a little different because every person and every relationship is different.

Best thing to do is begin by collecting some of the supporting evidence you will need - the FBI clearance certificate, and other police certificates, as well as proof of your relationship like your wedding pictures etc.

Good luck!
