Thats great. Please explain how you did that and frm which country you applied for certificate of qualification? Are you going to apply under federal skilled trades class? Last night I found the following info that you need to contact following provincial / territorial offices if they can accept your foreign qualification/work experience and can issue a certificate of qualification if you are outside of Canada..Thanks

Here's how we did our application.

1. Do your research on their website. (We went thru Alberta)
a). Ensure that your trade name actually exists on their trade list
b). Determine the length of time it requires for you to qualify for the trade certificate ( in our case 72 months)
2. Obtain relevant documents to prove this work experience
a). Job letters and job descriptions certified by your supervisor or the HR department of your company
b). List of all duties carried out in this job
c). School transcipts, diplomas, degrees (all certified or original)
3. Fill out correct application form
a) Put all documents in one package and send off.
b) Ensure you sent it to the correct department AND ensure you filled out the CORRECT form.

Hi!

Can you tell if you used

http://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/experiencedworkers/qualification-certificate/

1. Qualification Certificate Based On A Recognized Credential ?

or

2. Qualification Certificate Based On Work Experience ?

If you used option 2 then it says

"You can earn your certificate if you:

have the required time of hands-on work in the trade,
pass a theory exam "

Did you pass any exam ?

and then if you fill this form

http://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/sources/pdfs/forms/APPL_QUAL_WORK_EXP.PDF

what did you write here?

"What is your status in Canada? Canadian Citizen 
Permanent Resident 
Temporary Foreign Worker? 
If you checked Permanent Resident, what is the effective date (yyyy/mm/dd)"

Did you leave this portion empty?

Lastly from which country you applied for this certificate? Is it Mexico?

This is quite confusing I guess...Thanks

I see your problem. When we did the application, it didnt require doing an exam.

I just emailed my contact at AIT to ask about the requirements now. Once I get a response I will post it.

Very strange, I guess you haven't got the required "certificate of Qualification". You have some thing else. According to my knowledge these rules have been there for long time and no change recently.

Can you tell when did you apply for this certificate and I am repeatedly asking you from which country you applied? Thanks

No. Before 2011, what you would get would be something like a letter that allowed you I think 120 days to get the Certificate once you landed.

I am from Jamaica :D

Hi there!

Nice to know you are from Jamaica :). I see you may be right thats why you got the "Certificate of Qualification" other wise now you can see its a big problem and one can't get without being present in Canada. You can see they are asking to pass an exam. How can some one pass an exam from outside of Canada. So I think its very hard that "one can get this certificate without being present in Canada"

Thanks

Well, you could always just apply for a visitors visa and go do it that way. Thats how the nurses out here do their exam over there.

Here is the response I got..................

Dear ******,

The requirements for the Qualification Certificate Program - Work Experience application are still the same as last year. You are correct that the Instrument Technician is an Optional trade.

Once you submit your application with all the required information and the $450 CDN fee your work experience in the trade will be assessed and if it is approved you will get an approval letter.

If you are approved there is a theory examination that you must pass before you can be certified in the trade but no practical examination for this trade. You will not be able to challenge the examination outside of Alberta and you will need to have an Alberta employer as we will need a declaration letter from your employer before you can challenge the exam.

Please visit our website at http://tradessecrets.alberta.ca . The website has been updated since you last submitted an application.

So, I guess, the way would be to apply for the approval letter, then use the letter to try and find a job in Alberta.
Who knows, probably attaching it to a job application might help.
