I wouldn't care much about eCas ... my PPR was first sent to me on April 29 2011 to a misspelled email address... a bureaucrat at Detroit just found out two days ago ... and last thing eCas says is that my file got transferred to Detroit from Buffalo on Sept 2010...

If eCas was remotely useful, I would have "landed" in MAY !! ...

OMG. How could that happen? They didn't mail you a letter? They could've at least given you a call.
Well.. Past is past. You now have PPR in your hands. That's all that matters I guess.

Dear friends,
Nothing new to report on my side. But I have some good news.

My professor in Montreal under whose guidance I did my MSc ha offered me a PhD position in his lab. I am in Boston and you all know I have applied for PR.

My situation is like this:

I still have a valid canadian study permit (expires March 2013) and CAQ. They were renewed just before I left Montreal last June (I did not know that I would move to Boston). So its been a year since I am out of Montreal and not enrolled at a canadian university.

1) Can I still use my study permit to go to Canada and do my PhD, will there be a problem? or should I wait to get my PR and then join.
I am afraid that even though my study permit is valid, the canadian authorities might deny me entry because I was not there in canada studying for 1 year or more.

And in case it is possible to study there with my valid study permit, will it affect my PR application?

Please let me know.

Thanks

biochemgal09, I think it would not be a problem if you have an admission letter from university. Sometime when I crossed the border by bus, the custom officer only looked at the study permit, if it was still valid, they would let you go.

thanks tisu09 for your prompt response

yes, international students do not need a visa to re-enter Canada from the USA if they have a valid study permit.

So, technically, I can apply for admission, get it, and then enter Canada with my study permit, study, while my PR is being processed, right?

Yes, I think so. And it seems that crossing the border by bus is easier than taking airplane in this case (less question asked) but even you fly, you should not have any problem.

thanks Tisu09. :) I live in Boston, its 5 hours by car or bus to Montreal.

Any news, guys? I am addicted to this thread and its my homepage :P

Everything will be okay.

Don't be too worried Clément007. I did get the same answer like yours two weeks ago but after just one week, the answer was completely different. Keep the hopes up!

I enquired my case through the MP office again, and she told me that my file is going through background check and I should wait till January 2012.

Is this normal ? I have done medicals on June 2011 and have applied on Nov 2010. I am really worried about this situation.

Any suggestion would be greatful.

Thanks

Conserning the IA, I emailed buffalo on the 5th then the 15th and they replied on the 5th and 16th of August saying:
"Your application is in process. We are unable to provide a date when the processing of your application will be complete.

But on the mail that I received from Buffalo about being done with the initial assessment part, the decision was made on August 8th (but I received the mail only on the 17th) and they did not tell me that when I emailed them on the 16th so maybe for many of us who still haven't received an IA letter, that letter is on its way and they won't tell you that by email????
Maybe???

Hello , Eng !
I hate to tell you this , believe me. But judging from my own case (as well as other applicants here) , I think your file will reach January 2012.

I, for one , applied in October 2010 , got the AOR + medic in March 2011 (almost 5 months after I sent the application) , and I did my medicals on 21 March 2011. The medic were sent to Ottawa on the 4th April 2011. I called Ottawa around 19 April , and received an answer that my medical results were not recorded in their system. I was told to call back in a week . The lady was honest enough to tell me that "actually our medical files seat in Ottawa for around 2 weeks before being recorded in the system". I waited and called back in May (I guess it was on 4th May) , then I was told that my results were sent to Buffalo (I quote the lady: "Buffalo has got everything they need from us"). And since then ..... nothing ! It is almost 4 months since Buffalo got my medic and here I am .... Sorry, but you gotta love this waiting game, fella ! you got no choice !!

Now, I just checked ; you got your AOR on 29 June 2011 , if you did your medicals the same day (extremely fast !!!) , they were sent in to Ottawa in July (because the fastest clinic I know takes at least 3 days). Take the two weeks for Ottawa to record your medicals .... and you will find out that , probably Buffalo has got your medicals in this month .... (again I hate to tell you this, but) add my 4 waiting months , and you already are in December 2011, and before you know it here comes 2012 ....

Unless Buffalo speeds up , as they did in the last few days rainning PPR , your file is in 2012.
Again, I hate being the bearer of this calculation , but I guess you'd better get prepared for a long wait .

Have a nice evening and keep :P :P ;D ;D
