I didn't even mentioned for 2019 in my application, started from 2018,2017,2016,2015,2014
unless you applying in march and already filled 3 years taxes you are good to go, moreever after taxing 2019, your tax will be automatically updated on CRA data and CIC will access it during the process of your file as there is a column in application where we consent CIC to access Tax return data from CRA
They mentioned “5 years before date of submission”. So if you will sign/submit February 26,2020 then the 5 years period start from February 26,2015 to February 26,2020.
If you still didn’t submit your 2019 tax, you can simply answer yes/No.
2014 is out of 5 years period .

and you have to fill for the last 5 years even if you didnt filled, just click NO NO for the last 2 years if you didn't
Thank you !

They clearly ask for last 5 years. So list it from 2015 to 2019 and fill which ones have been required and filed.
I too a PR from 2016 and i filled as No-No for 2015 and rest years Yes-Yes. So its all depends on whether you filed or not from 2016 but fill for last 5 years as per application.
For year 2016, i said No, No as i thought that i never received any income/T4 statement in 2016. No i am worried !

You don’t have to worry . They also mentioned that you can send them update. So you may wait till tour file is in process and then send them update. This what I will do for my 2019 tax

Hi All,

For Homemakers what should be the answer with zero income for question 12 (b) for income taxes in the last '5' years.

Landed in 2016
& will be filing 2019 Taxes next week.

Whether it should by checking "no" as required to file and "yes" for Taxes filed for tax year (2016,2017,2018 & 2019) & for 2015 can it be marked as "no" for both required to file and Taxes filed?

Thanks.

How would it make any difference if someone is homemaker/job-holder. Filing taxes is irrelevant of what your income is. For citizenship purpose at least you should have planned to file with 0 income to avoid hassle dealing with ircc.
My wife too doesnt work but we do file with 0 income so that we are clear on eligibility as per rules. Why to take headache by not submitting as it costs 0$ to submit the tax return.

My application reached today and signed by A.DONAVIN. Trying to see if someone else in this forum too was received by this person. Trying to see if it reached correct location;)

Hari, she have filed taxes for all those years (2016,2017,2018 & 2019) but the question was "required to file".

So do I need to mark it as yes or no?

Sorry... From PR year, its required to file. So mark it as required to file from the pr year. Rest of the previous year(s) mark as not required to file.

so, if required to file is marked yes, filed is marked no for 2016. Would that create an issue ?

Whatever i see, it looks like the officer is looking if we have filed for 3 years hence i dont think that they are keen on verifying the tax rules rather than just verifying the satisfactory criteria of citizenship application. As usual, we need to wait and see and you can explain at the interview if asked.

I think i am still to post my application. I will file my 2016 return and make the correction in application. Take a new print out and submit it. That should work right ?
