you are looking at a refusal if you simply say "you will not be out of Canada for the whole process". you have an obligation to maintain as a PR and that is to be living permanently in Canada. How long have you been out or intend to stay out?

As a PR you cannot. You need to stay in Canada during the whole course, small trips for a week of two are fine but nothing long term.

I mad a soft landing for one week in April 2019 then returned back to my country of origin to get married ,and i'm planning to submit the sponsorship application next month and I have to stay in my country at least 7 months to settle my work contract

that's too long. u need to settle your work contract first then return back to Canada and then submit your application. you cannot do it while out of the country. but then again being away for 7 months is not good.

ouch... that's risking a direct refusal is more than a half year out of the country you are requesting application to be processed. According to me , is a lot.



To meet these residency obligations, you must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) in every 5-year period. The 5-year period is assessed on a rolling basis. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will look back at your time in Canada over the previous 5 years.

This means that you can spend a total of up to 3 years outside of Canada during a 5-year period. However, if you have been a permanent resident for less than 5 years and decide to leave the country for an extended period of time, it is up to you to prove to IRCC that you will be able to meet your residency requirements.


That's the general obligations ... but it might be more strict for Sponsorship tho.

The main problem as others mentioned is that if you (the sponsor) are a PR, you have to be in Canada for the whole process. Only Canadian citizens can initiate the process from outside the country - and even then, you have to show proof that you intend to move to Canada. This is from IRCC's website:

You can sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent child if:

• You’re at least 18 years old
• You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • If you’re a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents.
  • You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada.
• You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
• you can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor

And as others mentioned, be mindful of your residency requirements to keep your PR status!

Exactly... and the "permanent resident living" seems to be within the requirements i've listed. So he def need to make sure he doesn't go over it.

Wow congrats. We have the same timeline kabayan. But we are still waiting for the biometrics request or PPR.
