Hi crazyberns,

I dont have any US driving license either that i can use with my passport , pr card and copr. Can you suggest if they will return my application if i have nothing except the aforementioned docs? Thanks in advance

Hi Indiagal,

How about any work authorization card or any other sort of ID in the states? Maybe someone who has a similar situation like yours can chime in. I am really not sure if they’ll return your application if you don’t include other IDs.

Hi there,
I have two questions,
1) If you visit your family abroad for couple of days (less than 2 months) do we still have to provide police clearance or that doesn't count as living outside during eligibility period ?

2)I have filled my taxes in 2014 but no income and filed taxes for 2015 and 2016 as well but waiting to file my 2017 taxes. Should i apply now before filing 2017 taxes or its better to file 2017 tax and then apply.

3) My Indian passport will be getting expired in 6-7 months, so should I renew it for before applying for my citizenship or it doesn't matter ?

Thanks in advance.

Hey!!! I believe you have to file at least 3 year's taxes before you can apply, see below extract from CIC website:

Income tax filing
Regardless of your age, if required under the Income Tax Act, you must meet your personal income tax filing obligations in three tax years that are fully or partially within the five years right before the date you apply.

1. No, if the total number of days in one country does not reach 183 (or more) then you do not need a policy certificate. Note that this applies for the whole 5 years up to the moment you apply, so if you lived in the country for some time before you became PR, and then visited after you became PR and the total number of days reaches 183 you must provide a police certificate.

2. You filed for 2014, 2015 and 2016? You're good to go. The lack of income in 2014 does not matter; it only matters that you filed your taxes.

3. You don't need to renew it, but it may take 12 months to get Canadian citizenship. If you may need to travel in the mean time you will need a passport. But for your application itself it won't matter.

Hi, please update

Got AOR today. Application was received February 2.

:(Is it just me that still haven’t got AOR?! They received my application since Feb. 8!!! :(

That is not uncommon. AOR can take quite some time -- the spreadsheet can give you some insight into how long it can take. Sometime between 1 and 2 months is very common, and it's not unheard of take even longer.

We became PR on November 2014, so before that I was leaving in India, that means I have to provide that information in the application and provide police clearance certificate, If yes, where can i obtain that , from India or from VFS office in Toronto ?
One last question (hopefully) : Can i provide IELTS test results which i took in 2014 as my language proficiency proof ?
Thanks....
