Haven't received MR yet but Ecas changed today from "Application received" to "In process". It says: "We started processing your application on August 26, 2014".

Well application received means CIC have received your application and put in the que for an officer to review whereas in process means an officer is actually working on your file and if all the documents are in order s/he will send you mr rprf etc right away or ask for any additional documents.

In some cases, I have seen, application reviewer does not update the status of applicant.
One of my friends he got MR, he submitted MR, but his online status has remained same as received.
So, its not that important to monitor the status, ya but getting update shows your reviewer is active person doing his/her job honestly, for sure that will increase the excitement.
Enjoy it and good luck for the journey towards getting PR.
