My husband has a degree in finance but was in residential construction in California. He's decided to go into finance for the first time and is starting classes in January to become a CGA. They have already accepted 8 of his US classes. Breaking into a new field has been tough but he just got a part time job doing the books for a nonprofit which has been huge. And he will prepare taxes for h&r block during tax season. After almost four months we are finally getting somewhere.

Physiotherapy is a good field. It's great you have connections with something for him to do right away.

Reasons for inadmissibility

A person may be denied a visa, refused entry to, or removed from Canada on any of these grounds:

security reasons, including
espionage
subversion (attempts to overthrow a government, etc.)
violence or terrorism, or
membership in an organization involved in any of these
human or international rights violations, including
war crimes
crimes against humanity
being a senior official in a government engaged in gross human rights violations or subject to international sanctions
committing a serious crime that would be punishable by a maximum prison term of at least 10 years in Canada (see note 1)
having been convicted of a crime, including driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol (see note 1)

CRIMINALITY:

Overcome criminal convictions

Note: This information is for guidance and reference only. A decision on your admissibility can only be made when you apply to come to Canada or at a port of entry.

Under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), if you have committed or been convicted of a crime, you may not be allowed to enter Canada. In other words, you may be "criminally inadmissible."

This includes both minor and serious crimes, such as theft, assault, manslaughter, dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. For a list of criminal offences in Canada, consult the Canadian Criminal Code.

Note: there are other Acts of Parliament that a person can be convicted under, such as the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

If you were convicted of a crime when you were under the age of 18, you may still be able to enter Canada.
