FBI vs. Option C

Or to simplify matters, is there a way we can submit the application without the Option C printout but still provide the information they need?

Due to things outside of our control my wife and I have been unable to apply for my PR until recently. However I had my FBI background check done nearly three months ago (it'll expire on 1/17/13), but we'll be submitting the application prior to that day. The problem is that my wife needs to get the option C printout but it'll take 5-10 business days which will put my FBI background check over the 3 month period.

So my question is: Should we wait for my wife to get her Option C printout and then send the application? This however will mean my FBI background check is invalid so could I go through the process for my background check again in the mean time and then send CIC my updated background check once it's completed? Or can we submit the application as is (without the option C) and then send it when we get it (If so how would we do so?)?

I don't think you can send the option C later on, because it's needed for the first stage (sponsor approval), and you won't have a file number to send to CIC....

If your wife is not in Canada, then you can also do without the option C - as long as you explain her sources of income etc. I'm not sure if you're in Canada what else you could provide.

I think your best bet ( but that's only my opinion, other people could think differently!) is to wait for the option C, and send your application once you have it. like this, they can work on the sponsorship part when you get it. Include the FBI check, and put a note that you know it is expired, and you're working on getting a new one ( and start the process to get the new one).

Like this - CIC can see that your file is complete, they can start the stage 1 (evaluation of sponsor) as they have all the documents. Once your file is approved in stage 1, it will be forwarded to an outland VO, and you will be given a file number.

Once you receive the new FBI check, you can send it to the VO outland, because you will already have a file number that will make it feasible to match the record with your file, and replace the expired one. Most likely, you would receive the FBI check before they even open your file at the VO, so it shouldn't create any delay to add it. Once they start processing your file in stage 2, the FBI will be there and not expired.

Well....... you can send in the application without it. Either CIC will send you an email requesting the Option C, which will delay the process, or they will return the entire application. If they return the application, you'll have to get a new FBI check anyway.

Basically, you're running the risk of having to re-do the FBI check in either case. Whichever way you go about it, it will slow down the process.
