FBI report is all done. For any who may be doing this in the future, here is my timeline:
Monday, September 23. Had ink fingerprints taken on FBI form by a Canadian firm (note: the digital scans of my fingerprints as done in the US was so much simpler and easier than the inked).
Monday, September 23: Had my fingerprint card and the necessary documentation for the FBI sent by Federal Express courier from Alberta to the US. Arrived the next morning,
Sometime a few days after this I realized that the wait time could be up to 15 days for return of their document. I had misread their site and thought return was within 5 days, but this is for scanned fingerprints, as might be done in a US post office.
Friday, October 4. I received an email late in the evening from the FBI. This was sent out close to midnight their time. I logged in to the site and saw that my police document was available. I downloaded said document and had it uploaded to the IRCC site only a few minutes later. Note that the FBI provides login credentials in their first email reply to the applicant's request. It took me some time to locate this particular email, leading to a few moments of irritation. You have the benefit of my experience and you will be more prepared.
As it stands now I have plenty of time to submit my application. If I was to do this again I might have gotten the police document first and gotten that ready to go even before creating the application account at IRCC; I don't think there was anything required by the FBI that would have come from the IRCC; only a description of "why" you need this is necessary. The ticking of that "60 day" clock is wearing.
