Im about to send in a set of fingerprints to get back a report to the FBI but I noticed CIC has a different address listed than the one on the FBI site.

It seems more specific and reads:

FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services Division
Attention: SCU, Mod D-2
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, West Virginia 26306
U.S.A.

I found it here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp

as apposed to the one on the FBI site which is just:

FBI CJIS Division-Record Request
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, West Virginia 26306

What throws me off a bit more is that the one on the FBI site states it may take about 6-8 weeks while the one on CIC says 16-18 weeks....so I kinda want to send it to the first one anyway because of the processing times... but is the one on CIC the one we *must* send it to??

Either one will get to the correct unit.

CJIS processing times have been as much as 18 weeks in the past, but seem to be running 6-8 weeks at the present time.

My FBI fingerprints cards rejected two times due to poor qualities of my fingers ridges. I have sent my fingerprints again to FBI on 1st October 2012. In the meantime, I have done my medical on 28th July 2012 . If FBI rejects my fingerprints this time then what should I do? Is there any alternate? Your response is appreciated.

thanks

If the FBI is rejecting your inked prints you may want to try to file them electronically... live scan is what they use they are all over in the states not sure if it can be done with-in Canada.

I've never been able to find a live scan firm in Canada, and I've looked. A good fingerprint firm should guarantee acceptance of your prints, though.

1. Criminal Records checks in the US through a channeller are not acceptable to CIC, you must submit the FBI records check with the watermark security feature.
2. There are digital printing companies in Canada for RCMP fingerprint checks.
3. If the prints keep get rejected, go to you local Police dept. and ask who does the fingerprinting of their corpses. They can usually raise good prints on anyone.

I had the same issue when it came to my finger prints, and I was also confused by the contradicting information on the CIC and FBI websites. Eventually I decided on sending my prints to the FBI directly since sending them to the CIC only creates a sort of middle man and is unnecessary in my opinion. I had my prints taken 2 times before they were finally accepted... and here is my advice for you:

- Go get your finger prints taken one more time, but instead of only bringing on fingerprint card bring 3 or 5. That way it's more likely that you will end up with legible prints for each finger. This is what I ended up doing and it worked.
- Go to an approved FBI channeler and have your prints taken electronically and sent directly to the FBI. It can be a tad expensive, but it takes much less time and your fingerprints are guaranteed. However, this is only an option if you're within the US.

Hope this helped!

The BAckground Check/Clearance still comes directly from the FBI. The only thing the channeler does is send the finger prints. It's really OK. I had a friend that did it.

In a Request from LVO for FBI Police Report, it says "Original FBI letter must be submitted", whereas the Channelers we checked do not provide original FBI letter, but pdf-file from FBI only.

I also think that doing FBI Report thru Channelers may cause a rejection, and re-do.

There is a difference between using the channeler for the report versus using the channeler for the fingerprints.

Livescan fingerprints are printed out on cardstock. They look like a normal fingerprint card, but they are done from a livescan reader. That should be acceptable to the FBI - those are the prints, not the report.

For PR at least, the PCC must come from the FBI on the tamper-proof paper.

Read thru the threads, there are several people right now having to redo their FBI background checks because they used a channeler, either your friend lied to you or he isn't to the point where they WILL ask him to redo it. but they do not accept them.

Edited to add link:
This is the most recent post I can find saying they didn't accept the channeler but there are a few others recently as well to much work to be digging around at 6 am LOL you don't want to delay so even if there is a chance they would be denied why would you use them?

Ø Please provide an ORIGINAL FBI clearance certificate for yourself. The clearance you have submitted appears to be a photocopy and was not issued by the relevant authorities. Please note that electronic criminal reports on line are not sufficient. You must provide an ORIGINAL FBI .

I meant for just the fingerprints, not the report.
