FBI Police Certificate, produced by FBI-Approved Channeler

Probably a long shot, but does anybody know if it is possible to go to the FBI office in West Virginia and apply in person? It isn't THAT far of a drive for me, and every week I have to wait extra is $$ out of my pocket (I have a job waiting for me as soon as I get my PR).

I know it is highly likely that it is impossible, but anybody know? I'm gonna give them a call Monday to be sure, but wondering if you guys had heard anybody suggest this before?

The subject of an Identification Record may obtain a copy thereof by submitting a written request via the U.S. mail directly to the FBI, Criminal Justice Information Services Division, Attn: SCU, Mod. D-2, 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, WV 26306. Such request must be accompanied by satisfactory proof of identity, which shall consist of name, date and place of birth, and a set rolled-inked fingerprint impressions placed upon fingerprint cards or forms commonly utilized for applicant or law enforcement purposes by law enforcement agencies.

I'm sure if you could just walk in and get them alot more people would be doing it and it would be listed on their site along with times that you could go in and do it and since it says....

How to Request a Copy of Your Record
The FBI offers two methods for requesting your FBI Identification Record or proof that a record does not exist.
Option 1: Submit your request directly to the FBI.
Option 2: Submit to an FBI-approved Channeler

Then I would assume that you can't just walk in.... and since option 2 is why you are doing this again now... only leaves option 1. The waiting sucks I know but it's what has to be done.

And according to the FBI site, it is taking 5-6 weeks. So maybe we can expect results after 4...

Still a long time compared to other countries (I received a French clearance for FREE, no fingerprints needed, exactly FIVE days after requesting them), but not as bad as 8 weeks

I sent my request in on 8/23, took 6 weeks to receive back.

This process has changed positively - some Channelers are now permitted to generate and issue comparable FBI certificates. You can now get your FBI certificate in 2-3 business days. I just had my live scan done with an approved channeler and the electronic result came back in two days. I had them mail it to me on their tamper-proof paper just to be in the clear within 5 business days. I had also previously confirmed with the FBI and was told the resulting FBI certificate will be no different if done with Channeler or FBI only that FBI will take longer (minimum 6 weeks) if preferred. I used Maryland LiveScan (sister company to Accurate Biometrics).

I wanted to share this here perhaps it may help avoid further confusion and equally benefit and bless someone! ;D

CIC will ONLY take originals from the FBI and not another channeler, regardles it is on tamper proof paper or not.

My husband also went through a FBI Channeler and when he photocopied it, it showed the watermark. We ended up submitting them to CIC and wrote them a letter stating that we realized after that CIC only takes originals and that we would re-submit (which we did).

This was many months ago. We ended up getting our GCMS notes and in the notes it stated that we got the FBI results through an unauthorized third party and that we were re-submitting. Had we not re-submitted the originals, CIC would defintiely have asked us later on to re-submit.

So CIC will only take Originals. I suggest you send them those results for now and write a letter stating that you will re-submit the originals as soon as you get them.

It's not up to the FBI, it's up to CIC. CIC instructs applicants to send prints directly to the FBI. Perhaps it's true, as the FBI advised you, that the certificate you get from the channeler will be indistinguishable from what the FBI would send to you. However, personally, since reading in this forum of people who had to resubmit police certificates because they opted to use a channeler, I wouldn't risk it. Saving a few weeks at the beginning could result in several months or more of delays later in the process. I received AIP and DM at the same time. If, when the CIC agent reviewed my file and issued my AIP, I had needed to resubmit my police certificate, I would not have been able to receive DM that same day. It would have been months until an agent looked at my file again.

I don't know who said this but it is NOT TRUE that the certificate from the channeler will look ecactly the same as the certifcate from the FBI.

FBI sends you the certificate with the FBI letterhead- and that is what the CIC is looking for. The certificate from the Channeler would not have the FBI letterhead.

I paid 100 dollars to get my prints done through Safran Morpho here in Canada and I'm waiting to get my results for both my FBI and State certificates. I pray that when they get here that I see the watermark :/ I got mine done in states months and months ago but they were too old to send in when I send in my application. I still have it though and I can clearly see the watermark and I also tried photocopying it and it says void all over it...so *fingers crossed*

If you had your prints just taken by this company and then sent the print cards to the FBI and your State police respectively then you shouldn't have a problem. If this company is running the checks for you and will give you your information on their letterhead then you are going to have to do it all over again by sending it directly TO the FBI and State Police respectively.

No, you're 100% wrong on that. You're just about to delay your application by many months.

I did. I can not find a solution.
So? How can take my fingerprints? That is my big concern and can they be digital?
