Hello Folks!

I sent my application 2 weeks ago and thought of calling them today. So I asked them THE Golden Question...

They are looking at applications received in the week of Sept 8...

Hope this is correct and helps my fellow mates....

I am about to apply for FBI clearance certificate.

I was looking online and it looks like that FBI certificate can be obtained through Option 2 below

The FBI offers two methods for requesting your Identity History Summary or proof that one does not exist.

Option 1: Submit your request directly to the FBI.

Option 2: Submit to an FBI-approved Channeler, which is a private business that has contracted with the FBI to receive the fingerprint submission and relevant data, collect the associated fee(s), electronically forward the fingerprint submission with the necessary information to the FBI CJIS Division for a national Identity History Summary check, and receive the electronic summary check result for dissemination to the individual. Contact each Channeler for processing times.

I called few agencies and seems like option 2 is very fast as compared to option one.

Does anyone know, if I can use option 2 and will it be valid???

Hi canadams,

Yes, option 2 is valid, and the report they provide is exactly the same as what the FBI gives you. So if anyone who can use the FBI Channelers, please don't hesitate to use them.

Unfortunately, for people like me who are not US Citizens or Green Card Holders, you CANNOT use the FBI Channelers (http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks/fbi-approved-channelers) Most of us on this forum do not come into any of those categories.

Thank you very much Hari412, unfortunately, I really, really..... doubt that they are looking at Sept 8 applications. I called them up last week and they were stuck on Aug 5. Besides this a number of people here have applied in August and has not yet received theirs.

Guys,

The way I understand it is that the FBI Processing occurs in three stages: (the second and third are pretty much the same)
  • Step I:
First, they open your application, take your money, and enter the details you provided on the form (not on the fingerprint cards) into their system. (Note: This is not the system that was affected by the IT Upgrade.)

Once they do this, your application gets assigned a reference number. In my experience they complete this in 3 to 4 weeks. Hence, I suggest calling them at this point to make sure your application made it into their system.

  • Step II:
This is the step where they scan your fingerprints into their system, and then search for any matching criminal convictions. This is the part they upgraded on Sept. 7

The Golden Question is really which applications are they currently processing in this step - because here is where the backlog/bottleneck is.

From speaking to people at the FBI and at the Channelers (who actually use the same system) this step is supposed to take a few hours to a day if it works (if you don't have criminal convictions) Note that the FBI Channelers use their own systems for recording information and taking the fee (Step I), but this system/step is supposed to be common. I have not figured out why the Channelers are still getting results since the IT Upgrade, but the FBI is still stuck at Aug 5.

  • Step III:
Here, they print out and mail your results. Nothing special :D

Hari412 - I am curious if you somehow mistook Sept 8, for Oct 8. If yes, then the person was referring to Step I i.e. the applications opened and entered into their system - which sounds reasonable. The real mystery is what are the current applications processed in Step II.

Don't worry, I am sure someone in the forum would call them up in the next week, if not I will :D

I assume everybody who is waiting for the US PCC from FBI to arrive may have already informed New Delhi VO or other VO about the delay from FBI and requesting additional time.

However, did anyone receive any response from CIC or VO about time extension till now? If yes, how much extra time?

Can anyone please post their experiences?

Hi Seniors ,

pl help for the below query.

Application rec date May28th in CIC & landed in U.S on 1st week of June.

Is PCC from abroad required only if the stay (6 Months criteria) is prior to application received date at CIC ?

Is it necessary to take PCC from FBI or not rquired ?

If your going to stay in USA for min 6 months..then u will need to apply for that after 6 months... but if u get PER visa then probably it may not be needed..depends on Visa officer...

Hi, I'm in process of FSW and waiting for FBI clearance.
My application arrived FBI in 26 Sep and CC charged in 27 Oct.
It seems several more weeks are left.
My VO is Manila and I send a message for extention of submission.
No answer from VO yet.

Guys

Please do not wait for the VO to respond to you about giving you an extension for the FBI PCC. Instead please start a Case Specific Inquiry about this. This seems to be the only way to get a response.

NDVO seems to give an extension of 45 days, but I don't think that is enough. I have not tried this, but I know other's that did.

nowadays NDVO is giving 3 months time for submission of FBI PCC, so othey are aware of the situation I guess

Yes, I sent them the request via email and they gave me extension from 13th Nov to 30th dec.
I still have sent them rest of docs which were due 13th nov along with my last year's fbi pcc.

I suggest you post this question on main fsw 2014 thread. I am pretty sure I read there that option 2 was not valid.
