Hi,

I am an Indian citizen living in the US for more than 6 months. Completing the ITA formalities requires that I provide a police certificate from US aka FBI Identity Summary Request. FBI's website indicates that it would take 12-14 weeks to get the police certificate.

Has anyone got this formality done; does it really take 12-14 weeks? Because if it does there is a decent chance I will not get it within next 90 days even if I apply immediately. Is there a way around this; dont want to file an incomplete application....

Thanks!!

There's a whole thread to it. Make sure to go through that. It'll give you an insight about what to expect. Few things,
..... Make sure to keep the receipts and tracking number for the documents you submit by your courier to the FBI CJIS. It will be needed as a proof that you applied if let's say, you don't receive your FBI PCC within the 90 day frame. If you have someone like a close relative or family member living in US, put their US address as it'll save you a few extra days or a week of extra wait since it takes time for the regular mail to be delivered to India.

Also, if you're not a US citizen or a green card holder, please DO NOT go through any fast track channel. Anyone offering you a speedier way of getting the report is simply not telling you the whole truth. So as an Indian citizen, the long 12-14 weeks is the safest way to go.

Lastly, FBI processing times have improved by a lot. I firmly believe you'll have your report in under 3 months very easily.
