I just went to local police station that does fingerprints, they asked me what for I said FBI Criminal Background.
With an attitude clerk ask me yea but for what I said immigration.
She said we don't do them here for immigration, is this true?

I tried to explain that it is not for US immigration but for Canadian immigrarion but she just didn't want to hear none of it.

She gave ma special address of police station that does for immigration (which in fact is only open for 2 hours every week and its 30 miles away).

Am i wrong for going to local police station??? I don't understand its not for US immigration so why are they making a big deal?

Did you have to go to that special police station that does immigration fingerprints???

The police stations do not do fingerprinting for immigration. I have friends that did theirs themselves with just an ink pad. We went to a UPS store in the US that did it for us. Our report from the FBI was very quick.

Most police stations don't. Specialized centres will. Where are you located? I can help you find a place OR if I'm too slow, you can google "your city name" and "fingerprinting service."

Good luck! :)

Some police stations do them, others limit it to local residents only or folks with specific needs (permits, employment), others don't do it unless they arrested you. In some states the state police will do them also. You can call various local/state police stations and also explore fingerprinting agencies and PIs.

Also, if you share where you are folks may be able to give you specific ideas tailored to your situation.

We did a google search for "fingerprint services" in our area. It turned out there were a few... one was the County Sheriff and another was one of the several police departments in our area, and there were a couple of private services listed. You could try searching online. We live in a large metropolitan area, so if you are in a smaller or rural area there may not be as many choices.

Good luck to you.

In Houston, i think there are only a few stations that do them. Not every station does it. The one i did mine was about 8 miles from my house. The cop who did my fingerprinting was probably the best cop i met in my life (probably because other times they needed to talk to me, they were giving me a ticket :p ). But man this cop was so excited for me and my wife, it wasn't even funny. She even wanted to come to Canada and visit lol...

I'm in Broward county Florida.

I was under impression that it need to be done in police station vs. other fingerprint services.

Am i gona get different report if is in police station vs other fingerprint service.

In other words is Canadian immigration consider that as Channeler?

Thanks

Call your local police station, tell them you need to get a FBI background check done and where you will be able to get your finger prints taken. They will redirect you to the closest station that does them. I called two stations and the second one told me where to go.

good luck

It should be on a FBI card. Somewhere certified to do the fingerprints will have it. I got mine done in Canada and they had proper cards. :)

Also fingerprinting is done by a cop not any admin or clerk. It wont be done throughout the day either. The place i went to, did it only on Wed and Fri from 8am to 10am i think. The cop has to be there, and they come in only once or twice a week to do this. So make sure you find out the details. Don't just walk in and except to have it done. The process is very simple, make sure u get the details.

cheers

I did print fingerprint form from FBI site and it states there that regular print is ok, that i don't need hard copy card.

My local police station is doing fingerprints whole day, but I guess I really have to go to that special police station that does immigration fingerprints only 2 hours per week.

I guess confusion comes here where some people said they did with fingerprint services while other at local police station while other at special polie stations.

Very confusing!

The fingerprints themselves can be taken by any source, as long as they are done in the FBI format. But you cannot have those fingerprints analyzed and get the report done through a Channeler, you must send them to the FBI for the official report.

The FBI doesn't care who does the prints - you can even do them yourself if you wish. That's why there's a multitude of responses on where folks got theirs done.

Absolutely correct. We got ours done at the UPS store but you can do it at home with an ink pad. They have the form on line that you can down load. And doing it at home is pretty close to free (just the price of an ink pad).

I did some googling first then I called a couple of places. One of them was free (I think the State Patrol) and the other ones which was the Police Station charged 5 bucks and no appointment necessary. They didn't ask the reason until I got inside and took my prints.
