Fellow Boarders,

I donot have a family name in my passport, and hence I input NA (not applicable) , since this is a mandatory field.

Will this create any issue with CIC ?

Also, when I validate the form, my Applicant name comes like "NA, R."
NA = family Name
R. = First character of first name.

Is this the correct approach to submit the form ...?

Please advise

The form validation, doesn't allow it to be left as blank ...

It turns the field of family name as RED

Family name cannot be left blank.

If you have a two word name (first name + surname), use surname as Family Name.

If you have a one word name, use that as Family Name. The form gets validated without a first name.

Best of Luck!

My take is different to the posts above.

The form says that the name should match with the details in your passport.
Eg:
-Name in Passport
First name = John Smith
Last name = (blank)

- In the form
First Name = John Smith
Last Name = NA ( as the form does not validate without a last name)

You can also mention it in the cover letter so they have an explanation of why you opted to do this way. In btwn, I faced the same problem and proceeded as explained.

Hi Sanity,

So you have actually sent the application with (with new form)
First Name = John Smith
Last Name = NA ( as the form does not validate without a last name)

What I am worried about is, since this form is bar - coded, which means there will be no manual data entry... CIC guy might Overlook and process my application as NA, John Smith :)

Thougth I must say that the Idea of cover lettter to explain this would make sense.

OR

First Name = John Smith
Last Name = Smith (though its not there in passport, but looks better than NA, along with cover letter to explain)

?

Rabia,

I went with the first option & the form validated it as NA, J.
I cant quite vouch for either of the two options as I am yet to hear back from CIC but if you want to be doubly sure, it would be best to check with CIC or simply proceed with a cover note.

All the best !

Dear Sister

Assuming your name RABIA only, so your first name is RABIA and obviously the last name is RABIA.
Please fill in accordingly and mention in Cover Letter
Good Luck

Kanamen ,

My understanding of the question is based on how the details appear on the passport - In some cases (including mine) , the First/Last name appears in the field ' First Name' whilst the 'Last Name' field is left blank. This must be due to XYZ mistake so cant be quite sure here.

As the form says that the name should be a replica of what appears in your passport, I agree we can reach many assumptions.
Of course there must be a first AND last name for the poster (rabia_rak) , so it wouldnt be wise to repeat the first name in place of the surname if the details are as below.
First name - Rabia
Last name - Rak

As CIC instructs to mention n/a when a question is not applicable , hence my reasoning that it is okay to fill the last name as n/a - the cover letter should be good enough as it explains the dilemma of the applicant.

Is there any email address for CIC
