I don't really understand why these are two separate documents.

My brother is a Permanent resident. Now, if I submitted a paper that basically proves he has a PR (PR card or so) so what about the family member proof of status then ?

This is the description of the family member proof of status.

You must provide a copy of your family member's Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit). Please provide a copy of both sides of the document.

You must provide supporting documents to prove:
  • your relationship to your brother or sister
  • your brother or sister's status in Canada (permanent resident or citizen)
  • that your brother or sister lives in Canada
Examples of supporting documents:
  • birth certificates (must contain the names of the parents)
  • marriage certificates
  • legal adoption documents
  • any other documents that prove or describe the relationship between you and your brother or sister (this could include supporting documents to prove the common law relationship between your two parents)
  • a copy of your brother or sister's Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document
  • a copy of your brother or sister's bank statement or utility bill showing their address in Canada
Any help on that would be much appreciated.

1. Show your brother is a PR (scanned of PR card)
2. Show your borther that he is present in Canada with a address (Utility Bill/Bank Statement)
3. Show that he is your borther (Birth Certificate of you and your brother and if possible passport of both of you)
So basically 3 points you will need to proof. Also, when your brother applied for his PR check his PR application documents that he has mentioned your name as his brother with correct name and date of birth. Otherwise, there could be issue of misinterpretation from your end and from your brother end.

I do understand that but still they require 4 docs.

1) Proof of residency in Canada of sibling
Example: Utility Bill showing your name & address or a bank account statement that has the name & address on

(2) Proof of PR/Citizenship of Sibling.
Example: Your Permanent Resident document / PR Card

(3) Proof of sibling relationship (required)
Example: Birth Certificate

(4) Family Member Proof of Status.

So what is for 4 now. If I submitted, a scan of the pr card, utility bill & birth certificate.
what else can satisfy this number 4.

To satisfy number 4, I just lumped together all the documents I submitted for the first 3 and uploaded them again.

The reason they have both the 'proof of family member status' field and the 3 'proof of sibling' fields is because applicants can claim FSW eligibility points for having a family member that's not a sibling, (the sibling rule provides CRS points, not FSW eligibility points). The system isn't yet smart enough to not ask applicants who claim the siblings CRS points for the family member proof required for the FSW eligibility points as well, even though having a sibling automatically means you also have a valid family member for FSW eligibility points.

These are the three documents I submitted to show relationship with my uncle. Proof of status is PR Card and Utility bill. Proof of relation is the birth certificate of mine, my mom's and my uncle's. Hope that helps.

Can you please specify the sections under which you uploaded all these documents?

Hi were you able to know what is document number 4? I have the same problem! Thank you

Does this have to be a colour copy or a black and white scanned utility bill will be accepted?

I have exact same scenario for me? If you remember what did you do, It would really help me. Thanks

This is the explanation for question #4 when you click on the question sign.

You must provide a copy of your family member's Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit). Please provide a copy of both sides of the document.

I think this refers to any family members that are included in your application (dependents) . When I submitted mine I included a copy of my permit and my other family members.

Remember that IRCC needs to see that your family members have a legal status if they're in Canada.

This makes more sense because they already asked for your Canadian sibling information, therefore, this one is for the family member included in your application.

I have a Canadian sister, and I am adding my son to my PR application so in this case, I provided the 3 things they require, our birth certificates to prove my relationship with my Canadain sibling, her Citizenship Certificate, and proof that she lives in Canada, credit card statement and her T4. On the other hand, I provided as (Family Member Proof of status) My son's Study permit and added my work permit too, as he is the Family Member included in my application.

@Ramor02 that sounds about right. Just ensure you upload the other sibling documents in the correct slots and remember that your family documents should have copies of the front and the back.

I have one Canadian sibling here in Canada and my son with me in my PR application, my other siblings are back home they do not have status in Canada. So am I good to go this way?

When I say *other sibling documents* , I dont literally mean your other siblings you have - they are irrelevant for proof of relationship. I was talking other things such as proof of residence and proof of relationship etc. Its just that they ask for 3 types of proof for the sibling so I'm just saying you should ensure you upload it in the correct section on the application
