Family letters in English

Hi all,

I'm including lots of family and friend's letters in our application. Would anyone happen to know if the ones written in English need to the original copy sent or is a photocopy ok? I can't seem to find this info anywhere, maybe my head is just full at the moment!

As there is no guideline or requirement anywhere i would say you can send it however you want.

Mine were all printed/written on a computer.. Two had wet signatures. One was not "wet" signed. All three contained the "authors" contact details should CIC wish to contact them.

We sent all originals, and kept photocopies for our own records. I do, however, agree with WeegieInOttawa - it's really up to you how you want to send them! I would say, though, if you have lots other evidence in part 7c of the checklist (i.e. i) Important documents for you and your sponsor showing that you are recognized as each other's common-law partner, and ii) Documentary evidence of financial support between you and your sponsor, and/or shared expenses, then I wouldn't put too much weight on the letters.

Thank you both! In the end I just had my family and friends write the letters, sign them and send me a copy (not the original). I'm not having them notarized so hopefully they'll serve as extra supportive documents. We have some financial supporting evidence such as a joint account, paying our son's nursery school, old rental contract ect but in Italy we have a document saying that we all live together but it doesn't specify exactly that it's a common-law relationship. I think it should be fine....
