We are a family of 3 & were sponsored by my brother under Alberta Family Immigration. We landed on different dates as per below details. Since then my Wife & my Son have mostly remained in Calgary ( 1300 Days) but I have been away to India for my work.
In past 5 years or so I have completed 375 days or so and my PR Card is valid till 11th Feb 2017 only. I can take leave from my work for a couple of months from India but stay in Canada for 12 more months to complete 2 Years is not be possible.
Some of the persons who have experience in this field have suggested me to renounce PR at this time and apply for Visitor Visa and then Re-apply for PR later under Spouse category.
Will you agree to this or is there any way we can seek renewal of existing PR if I come immediately and stay for a couple of months?

My Wife and Sons PR cards are valid until July and they will be qualifying for applying for Citizenship most likely by that time, will their PR renewal / Citizenship request will get affected by my status?

Details of our Family

Self - - Landed - November - 2011 - stayed for 4 weeks and went back to India, thereafter went back in November 2012 for few weeks and subsequently have been regularly coming and going back once every 3-4 months for 20-25 days.
Wife - & Son - Landed -April 26 - 2012 - we all stayed for a week and then came back to India, From Nov 1 - 2012 - Wife & Son stayed till - July 2014 then they came back to India. Again went to Canada on March 2015 and have been in Canada.

The only way you can renew your card is if you return to Canada and then don't leave until you meet the residency obligation (2 years of living in Canada for the last five years). So you would likely need to remain in Canada for over a year straight before attempting to renew your PR card. Renewing after a stay of a few months will end in a refusal and a revocation of your PR status.

Thanks for your answer, will my status in any way affect my Wife & Son's renewal/application for Citizenship?

And should I renounce PR and apply for regular visitor visa & then perhaps reapply fresh after a couple of Years when I retire from work?

No, their citizenship app will have nothing to do with you.

Yes that sounds like your best option.

Updating my case for reference of fellow members/readers, I renounced my PR by sending the form to Consulate at Chandigarh and got their confirmation in around a month. Since I never had any confirmation or mail from consulate during this time, I got little anxious and applied for tourist visa via Chandigarh VFS and also enclosed the copy of the form as well postal receipt and on a safer side enclosed another new application. Perchance I got the letter next day of my application, looks they had issued this in 2 weeks but was posted much later. Yesterday I got my multiple visitor visa which is valid till one day before my passport expires in December 2020.

My wife & Son applied for renewal of PR Cards in March and they also got the new PR cards last month. Thanks everyone for sharing their views.

A good outcome and thanks I am sure from everyone here for posting an update which if everyone did would add so much value to this forum in providing answers to everyones questions whether outcome is positive or negative.
