We have adopted a child from my family (younger brother) in 2016 as we were not having any child. The adoption was done legally and after the adoption, we get a new birth certificate of the child updated with our name. We have received ITA this week. We have filled the relationship as an adopted child in the application.
Do we need to add the biological parents or their other child in the family details for the adopted child?

Strictly speaking, the adoption, if done correctly, severs all parental and sibling ties to the birth family. So, no, you don't need add them to your application.

HOWEVER, as the biological parents are a) still alive and b) immediate family, you are going to have significant problems proving to IRCC that this is not an "Adoption of Convenience" in order to acquire immigration status for the child. Be prepared for this...

Thanks for the reply. Will this be considered as "Adoption of Convenience" even if the adoption was done prior to we thought of moving to Canada? Adoption was done a couple of years earlier before we create the CIC profile

That would depend on the visa officer that processes the application. Some people play a "long game" with immigration, sometimes into multiple years.

What is your country of origin? IRCC does not recognize adoptions from certain countries.

Where has the child been living for the last several years? Has the child effectively severed ties with the birth parents and is living exclusively with you? As explained above, simply adopting the child isn't enough.

Country of origin is India. The child is now 4 years old. We adopted him when he was 1.5 years old and exclusively living with us since adoption. He even doesn't recognize his biological parents

Hello, how did this go for you? I seem to be in a similar fix and came across this thread. Was it successful?
