Hi All
As my family (Wife and daughter) are currently living in India, I am planning to apply for PR sponsorship under Family Class (Outland). However once the travel ban is lifted, I am planning to bring them to Canada to stay with me under visitor visa. Is there any way while the application is in process and once they land in Canada, I can update the application to Canada Class (Inland) or notify immigration that the principal applicant is in Canada, so any further correspondence like medical exam, passport stamping etc., can be handled inside Canada rather than processing it in India.
Would really inputs here as this will hugely impact how I process the application. Thanks

Have you applied for visitor visas for them?

So no, you can't switch from outland to inland during the process - you'd have to withdraw it and re-apply.

But: apart fro the inability to apply for an open work permit (and hence related like conceivably health care), you can do all the other parts - medical, bio, passport stamping (actually virtual landing) in Canada.

So overall unless the time period between applying and their arrival is short, it probably does not make sense. Given the lack of direct flights from India (and not clear when that ban will be lifted), consider whether applying now is more advantageous. (Note also, assume you are either in Canada if a PR or a citizen if abroad)

(Note also that some comments are that the OWP is taking quite a while to process so it may not be a significant advantage).

Thanks. Yes I am a PR living in Canada and my wife has a valid visitor visa and my daughter is a US citizen, so can enter with on-arrival visa

I thought through the same and that with the current travel ban, I am at least looking to bring them by or after November 2021. So I was calculating if I can gain any advantage if I apply now and get 3 months ahead in the application process.

So once I bring them to Canada, should I notify the CIC on their arrival so that I can do all other parts like medical, bio, passport stamping here in Canada? If so, how do I notify them? Any specific form to send? Thanks much

Yes, I would guess that applying earlier would be more advantageous.

When they arrive in Canada, update address using webform. This is really only needed for the landing part - the medical and biometrics can be done anywhere in the world anyway.

Good to hear. Thanks for your answers.
I would also assume that passport stamping can also be done anywhere based on the webform update, correct?

There are different points here: 'passport stamping' (insertion of a visa counterfoil) is only needed for those who are outside Canada (and not even done for those from visa waiver countries) - all applicants get a COPR (confifrmation of permanent resident doc). The 'landing' process must be done for all, which is the point at which the applicant becomes a PR - at the border for those arriving in Canada, basically stamping the COPR at the border, OR for those already in Canada, current practice is to do a virtual landing (computers and internet something something). No need to worry right now about how virtual landing works - the upshot is that if your family are in Canada when the passport request/final approval comes, they'll do it in Canada.

Ah I understand now and it is clear. Thanks again...
