Hi there,

I did the paperwork to get US residency myself years ago. Now I am doing my spouses Canadian residency. The forums for that had very detailed step by step guides. I find that it is hard to find that info for Canadian residency on this website. I have been on the CIC site alot, and am just wondering if I am missing it on this forum.

Thanks

Thanks. I can navigate the forums pretty easily but just trying to go step by step through the process. I am using the guide on the CIC website and hope I dont miss anything. A couple of questions:

Can I submit paystubs from my company instead of tax returns? I can also provide T4's (I am the sponsor)
Is it advisable to pay the fees online by registering an account with the CIC? or just send them cheques? If it is cheques do I send 3? (75, 475 and 490 fee).

You are required to include the latest Option C, which you have to request/order directly from CRA. It takes a couple of weeks for it to arrive by snail mail.

It's best to pay the full amount ($1040) online.

Oh...and I assume that you've already figured out the `math', regarding how difficult it will be to maintain a U.S. Green Card (for you) and your spouses PR, because of the vastly different residency obligations between Canada and The U.S., right? Not saying it's not doable, just that it's not easy to do.

Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. Since I was living in the USA I did not file Canadian taxes yet. I read that if you make over a certain amount and can show evidence (I make over the amount), that you didnt have to send in tax stuff. Id like to avoid sending them my tax info if possible. Also, yes very difficult to maintain US and Canadian residency at the same time. We are likely giving up our US green card.
