Hi All,

One of my friends want to apply for immigration under Skilled Worker category. He is married and has one child. Because of immediate funds shortage, can he apply alone for now (even mentioning all details of family member and checking family member NOT accompaying with him) and later, say after one year adds his spouse and child into the application (Accompany with him in Canada)? It will take a while to get his application done (around 3-4 years), so would this step can lenghty his process?

Thanks in advance all for your guidance and suggestion.

Best Regards

so after one year when he adds his spouse and child and put date of marriage and child birth, which would be before his application date. Would automatically disqualify him for false information at first place. If he mentions the names in the begining, there could be complexity, I've never heard anyone do that! He would be taking risk. If at any stage paperwork isn't in order CIC can refuse to process further. This would mean everytime he sends papers he would have to give explaination.

Note: application includes declaration by the candidate that all information is true!

My suggestion would be to tell him to wait until he has enough funds. If he's desperate he could ask bank loan or something.

The skilled worker applications are not taking 3-4 years anymore. Under the new system, they are supposed to take a year or less. If the applicant is being truthful and listing his wife and child as non-accompanying, I can't see why he can't do that but by the time he wants to change the status, he will already have his PR. He will then have to go to Canada and sponsor them from there and who knows what immigration will think of his marriage status since he had applied by himself in the beginning and listed his wife as non-accompanying. Better to wait for a year to apply and save up the money.

Thanks Leon and Zuzu.

Leon, as per CIC link (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp) application from Pakistan (Islamabad) takes around 65-70 months. But I think as per new rule of Immigration, if the applicant is suitable enough and if his application needs to be further processed, that is decided within one year.

One more thing here, when we are mentioning that spouse and children will not be accompanying the principal applicant, would their fee ($550 for Spouse + $150 for Child under 22) still need to be paid?

Guys your concern and dedication is much appreciated

The processing times on the website are for the old system and are taken from completed files so would be accurate if you applied 65 to 70 months ago. Nobody knows if the backlog will be processed faster or at the same rate and there is no experience yet for the new system although CIC has said it should be within one year.

You do not need to pay application fees for non-accompanying dependents but they still need to get a medical. I think.
